Almost a week ago I attended the NAAME East of England Manufacturing Conference 2026, hosted at Saxon Air.

It was a fantastic event with very engaging presentations on smart energy solutions for industry and others that were exploring opportunities for manufacturing. The panel discussions and workshops were also very interesting, with lots of valuable knowledge being shared from a variety of SMEs.

It was also a great venue for doing a little networking and meeting up with other manufacturing colleagues, Jeremy Carter from Carter Energy Consulting Ltd, Abbie Johnson from Westcotec Limited, Charles Worsman from Budease, Will Bridgman from Warren Services and Candy Richards from FSB UK.

Thank you to everyone who presented and the NAAME group for putting on such a great event! Looking forward to the next one.

Have you come across plastic injection moulding but want to know more about it?

If you’re developing a new product, you’re likely trying to balance cost, quality, lead times, and risk, often without clarity on what a fair price looks like, or what should be included in a quote.

If you’re already producing plastic parts, you might be questioning whether your current supplier is delivering value for money, good quality parts, and reasonable turnaround times.

Plastic injection moulding is a technical process that has been around for a long time, but is still one of the largest used manufacturing methods to produce high quality plastic products all around the world.

We have put together a brief guide that answers the questions we are asked most often and to give you clear, practical answers so you can make informed decisions. Whether you are launching something new, or reviewing an existing production setup we think this will help:

So those that know us at Bowles and Walker know we adopted a 4 day work week about a year and half ago, however, there are some exceptions to us "working" on a Friday.

Today I had the privilege of attending a gathering to celebrate Oliver Denison and the opening of NRG Solutions (Norfolk) Ltd brand new office in Dereham, at Signpost house.

The event was great, meeting with lots of familiar faces as well as meeting some new ones. With enlightening talks from Rik Martin about Community Action Norfolk (also located at Signpost house) about all their fantastic work in the community; and Jules Rickman-Jenkins Photography leading a captivating and practical presentation about utilising the power of AI in the workplace.

So not only did I get to celebrate and congratulate Oliver for all the amazing effort and work he has put in over the last 3 years of NRG Solutions (Norfolk) Ltd, I also got to learn about a brilliant charity organisation and how I can incorporate AI more within our business.

A big thank you to Oliver for the invitation and to Rik and Jules for the great talks.

Happy New Year to all, what a first week back last week was! I hope it was not too traumatic for everyone getting back in to the swing of things!

For us at Bowles & Walker, we have had a very busy start to the year, with some difficulty with snow at the start, a delivery of a new 260T Borche mould press from BORCHE, the complete rearrangement of our warehouse, as well as having another machine, a new (to us) 50T ENGEL mould press, delivered yesterday from B&A Machinery.

So, to say we've had a busy start to the year is an understatement, but we think this sets the tone for a great year ahead, with greater moulding capacity, more efficient working spaces and increased energy efficiency from machinery.

It has been a little while since our last post, time is really flying this year! We have been so busy with equipment purchases, reorganisation of our tool room, on boarding of new customers and helping out existing ones, that social media just went by the way side.

But I finally have some time, and over the next few weeks I will be reporting on all the good works we are doing.

The first thing to report was a visit we had last week from Breckland Council who came to view all the great equipment that they've supported us with through the Rural England Prosperity Fund (REPF) grants. Cllr Sarah Suggitt presented the grant certificate to Andrew and Michael Barwood, the Managing and Operations Directors of Bowles and Walker.

With these grants, Bowles and Walker have increased our moulding and tooling capacity, now able to handle mould tools up to 4 tons, allowing us to expand our business, as well as enhancing our solar array, aiding us with our journey down the road to Net Zero, all of which is leading to increased growth and employment.

Last week we had students from Wayland Academy Watton doing their work experience placements with us.

Wiktoria and Oliver spent the week working in our tool room learning all the processes that are needed to create a working plastic injection mould tool. From the milling machines to the EDM machines, they were shown how each one plays its part.

They also got to experience some production work, not the most exciting of work, but I think this just solidified their desire to become engineers 😋

Overall they had a great experience and we were very happy to be helping out the local school.

Another scorching (and humid) day today, but that has not stopped us from keeping our moulding machines running and generating over 550Kw of solar and wind power 💪. Though we have had to put every extractor fan on in the factory and replenish the ice lolly supply to keep staff a bit cooler! 🥵

So despite the very hot weather that we have had lately, we have been pretty busy at Bowles and Walker. We had 80% of our plastic moulding machines running last week and look to be doing similar this week. Certainly cannot complain, asides from how hot it is getting in the building, looks like we'll need to re-stock the ice-lolly supply in the break room again 😋

Curious about what plastic injection moulding is?

It's a technology that has been around for a long time, but is still one of the largest used manufacturing methods to produce high quality products all around the world.

In this post, we’ve outlined how plastic injection moulding works; what it's used for; Its advantages and disadvantages; and what the common plastic materials are:

Here at Bowles & Walker, we're all about delivering high quality parts efficiently and consistently. We're also on a mission to become as sustainable as possible and reduce our carbon footprint. Plastic injection moulding is a manufacturing process used to produce a large volume of identical plastic parts at high precision.

So I cannot believe it is already the second week in April! March has just flown by, and it seems that April is already doing the same.

Last week we celebrated Jenny Smith's final week at Bowles and Walker, our production worker of 21 years! We had a fantastic night out Bowling with many of the Bowles and Walker staff, and even a part timer who retired the year before, Keith Murray.

Lots of fun was had and although Jenny is going to be missed, we all wish her a happy retirement (though she promised to pop back in every now and again 😋).

Very good breakfast meeting at Broom Hall Country Hotel this morning hosted by Wayland Chamber Of Commerce, Norfolk, UK.

David Dent, our WCC chairman, led the event with an introduction and quick update of the chambers activities including the recently held AGM. As well as be given the opportunity to talk about ourselves and what we can offer.

Really great to see so many other local businesses, and organisations coming together to network and find collaborations.

If you would also like to join or find out more information about the Wayland Chamber of Commerce, please follow the link below to their website:
