It's our AGM next Tuesday 23rd March and we have a guest speaker from Clarkson and Woods talking about the wildlife to be found at solar farms and specifically about the land at our solar arrays in Wedmore.

Also, delighted to announce the community fund has now given over £65,000 in grants - with plenty more in the pipeline for the future. All members are welcome to the AGM and talk - zoom code will be in your most recent email.

Covid-19 Update: Clarkson & Woods are operating on a business as usual basis having made some changes to how we work. Full statement here.

WEDMORE Community Power Co-op AGM 2019
Tuesday 26th March 7pm at The Swan function room (7.30pm for non members wanting to hear the talk).

The Chairman's report starts off with......“2018 was a record-breaking year for Wedmore CPC, a combination of a very sunny summer and well-maintained kit working at peek efficiency meant we had the highest generation ever !!

Please come to find out more and get up to date with our community grant giving - and listen to an inspiring talk at 7.30pm from our Speaker Stewart Crocker who will talk about sustainable food systems....

Stewart has a life-time’s experience of promoting sustainable farming and environmental conservation. He is currently Chair of Wells Food Network, which has created the Somerset Food Trail – the first in the UK. He also Chairs Avalon Community Energy which provides renewable energy for schools, to drive down carbon emissions and to inspire the next generation!

Towards a sustainable food system....we’d all acknowledge that food grown on an industrial scale and ultra-processed is bad for our environment, our local economy, community cohesion and our health. But the more enlightened among us are already swimming against this tide. By our actions - in terms of what and how we grow, shop, cook and minimise waste - we’re already on our way to turning the prevailing food system on its head.

This evening, we’ll aim to learn from each other, to advance our thinking and accelerate our actions towards a sustainable food system for Wedmore – and the world!.

Wedmore CPC AGM 26th March 2019 at The Swan function room.

We are starting at 7pm and non members are encouraged to come along at 7.30pm to hear more from this years guest speaker Stewart Crocker.

Stewart has a life-time’s experience of promoting sustainable farming and environmental conservation. He is currently Chair of Wells Food Network, which has created the Somerset Food Trail – the first in the UK. He also Chairs Avalon Community Energy which provides renewable energy for schools (please see the picture of our local middle school which had pv put on via ACE) to drive down carbon emissions and to inspire the next generation! Let’s collaborate – because it’s fun and there is no planet B!

In response to the climate emergency, driving down carbon emissions is clearly more urgent than ever. Of course, individual actions are vital and need to be supported by progressive national policies. Though the current vacuum of political leadership is palpable, Stewart believes that it provides communities with the opportunity to fill the void, by working together ever more effectively. He will describe his many experiences of collaboration in support of his conviction and that by doing so we can add real potency to the likelihood of achieving a sustainable future.

Please let us know if you are planning to come.

Yesterday 3 of us from the board met with Avalon Community Energy (ACE) to discuss the possibilities of community solar after 31st March when the FiT falls away. We also discussed the workshop that has been planned for Somerset energy groups in march and the possibility of collaboration in the future. Much more news about this at our AGM. Further details about this to follow soon.
