Fault Investigation & System Improvement – Residential Air to Water Heat Pump

We were called to investigate a Split-type ATW heat pump that had suffered a complete lack of performance.

🔍 Problem:
A refrigerant leak was identified and was caused by exposed and unprotected refrigerant pipework installed within a wheelchair-accessed walkway. Over time, the pipework became damaged, ultimately leading to refrigerant loss and system failure.

🔧 Our solution:
✅ Heat pump, rotary isolator and interconnecting communication cable relocated to a safer position
✅ Pipe run reduced from 25m to just 7m (improving efficiency and reliability)
✅ Pipework and electrical cables fully protected in trunking to prevent future damage

⚠️ This highlights the importance of correct pipe routing, protection, and consideration of accessibility and foot traffic—especially in vulnerable or high-use areas.
