This Wednesday, 4th of Feb, we are exhibiting at Yorkshire Agricultural Machinery Show.

It's out first time exhibiting anywhere, so in true MB Steelworks style, we decided to go big and exhibit at one of the biggest shows in the industry.

We're both nervous and excited. If you're there, come and say hi 👋

Happy Birthday Matty!!

Another successful week on site in North Yorkshire.

This 120ft x 50ft x 17ft will be of mixed use, housing cattle as well as a small stables area.

It's been a wet old week but happy to see the progress made 💪

Going to Yorkshire Agricultural Machinery Show this year? Come say Hi. We're on stand SC5! See you there.

When we talk about quality, it’s not a buzzword, it’s a daily standard.
From the smallest bracket to the largest frame, we work with accuracy, pride, and discipline.

Our team checks every weld, verifies every joint, and ensures each build meets the same standard we’d expect for ourselves. That’s how we maintain the reputation we’ve built through consistent, quality craftsmanship.

Steel might be strong, but it’s our dedication to quality that keeps MB Steelworks standing tall.

When it comes to internal floors, yards, and loading areas, a perfectly laid concrete surface makes all the difference.

At MB Steelworks, concreting isn’t an afterthought, it’s a craft. The right surface means smoother operations, easier maintenance, and a finish that holds up to years of heavy use.

Here’s what goes into getting it right:

1. Preparation is everything

Before a single pour, we make sure the ground beneath is stable, level, and properly compacted. Any soft spots or unevenness here will show up later as cracks or dips. Getting the prep right saves problems down the line.

2. Setting accurate levels

We use laser levels and experienced eyes to achieve a consistent finish across every square metre. Whether it’s a workshop floor or an external yard, accuracy at this stage determines drainage, usability, and durability.

3. The right mix for the right job

Not all concrete is created equal. We specify mixes based on load requirements, usage, and environment from heavy plant areas to clean internal bays. That ensures strength without unnecessary cost or overengineering.

4. Reinforcement & steel placement

We place rebar or reinforcement mesh exactly where it needs to be embedded, tied, and spaced to engineering spec. This reinforcement transfers loads and prevents cracking.

5. Timing and technique

Concrete laying is all about timing. From pouring to power-floating, every step has to be completed at the right moment. We monitor the setting process constantly to achieve a smooth, even surface that won’t dust, pit, or flake.

6. Finishing that lasts

Once cured, we seal or treat surfaces where needed helping them resist wear, chemicals, or weather. It’s not about just looking good on day one it’s about standing up to years of hard use.

Every smooth, solid concrete surface we deliver is another example of the standards we live by: preparation, precision, and pride in the finish.

Because the quality you walk on says a lot about the quality you build with.

This is Matty — the man behind MB Steelworks.

If you’ve ever worked with him, you’ll know he’s not one to sit back and watch. Whether it’s setting out bolts, checking levels, or finishing the job in the rain, he’s right there in the thick of it. That’s just how he’s built — hands-on, detail-driven, and proud of what he creates.

In this photo, Matty's on-site setting out bolts on the weekend with little Reggie, his newborn son in the pram beside him. He'd had a busy few weeks so Saturday morning shift was required to ensure the project ran to schedule. It’s a moment that says everything about who he is, a grafter, a dad, and someone who balances both with the same commitment and care.

MB Steelworks started with Matty’s belief that hard work, honesty, and quality still matter. That belief is what’s shaped every job since.

Family, craftsmanship, and pride in a good day’s work that’s what keeps this business grounded.

A steel structure resting on foundations is only half the job.
The bolts that anchor the steel to its concrete base. Holding-down bolts, or anchor bolts, are mission-critical. Get the positioning wrong, and everything above will feel it.

At MB Steelworks, we use Topcon’s positioning and layout systems (satellite / GNSS + robotic total station workflows) to nail that accuracy. Here’s how and why we do it:

✅ Why correct bolt positioning matters

Holding-down bolts ensure the steel columns and base plates are exactly where they’re supposed to be. If bolts are out of alignment (even by a few millimetres), the structure may twist, stress welds, or require rework.

We embed these bolts into the concrete then guide the steel frame down onto them. Any misplacement can compromise structural integrity or require adjustments on the frame itself.

🛰️ How we use Topcon’s layout / positioning systems

We transfer the design’s 3D model or layout directly into the field. Topcon’s systems (total stations, GNSS-based layout tools) help us convert architectural/structural plans into precise physical coordinates.

Before bolt layout, we set up reliable control points around the site to reference the system. This ensures all measurements relate back to a common survey grid.

Using the positioning tools, we place the holding-down bolt template in exact X, Y, Z coordinates relative to the design. That means when steel comes down, everything lines up.

After positioning, we verify by measuring reference points again to ensure the bolt layout is within tolerance before concrete is placed.

The columns drop onto those bolts, and we fine-level, tighten, and grout to confirm secure, properly aligned connections.

Because at the end of the day, our clients don’t just want a steel building — they want confidence that it’s built right.

This isn’t guesswork. It’s precision engineering meeting field reality. And that’s what MB Steelworks stands for.
