Job Summary
United Gas Engineering Ltd is seeking an experienced and commercially focused Business Development Manager to support business growth. The successful candidate will identify new opportunities, build strong client relationships, develop sales strategies and expand the company’s customer base across domestic, landlord, letting agency, property management and commercial sectors.
The role requires strong communication, negotiation, market research and relationship management skills, with the ability to understand customer needs and promote the company’s services effectively.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
• Identify and develop new business opportunities for gas engineering, plumbing, heating, electrical and renovation services.
• Build and maintain relationships with landlords, estate agents, letting agents, property developers, contractors, businesses and domestic customers.
• Prepare and implement business development strategies to increase revenue and market share.
• Research local market trends, competitor activity and customer demand.
• Generate leads through networking, referrals, digital marketing, direct outreach and client meetings.
• Manage key accounts and maintain long-term customer relationships.
• Prepare business proposals, quotations, service packages and client presentations.
• Negotiate contracts, pricing and service agreements with clients and partners.
• Work closely with engineers, office staff and management to ensure customer requirements are met.
• Promote company services including boiler installations, servicing, gas safety checks, central heating, emergency repairs, electrical services and renovation projects.
• Monitor sales performance and prepare regular business development reports.
• Develop partnerships with property management companies, housing providers, landlords and commercial clients.
• Support marketing campaigns, website enquiries, customer reviews and local brand awareness.
• Maintain accurate records of leads, quotations, contracts and sales pipeline activity.
• Represent the company professionally at meetings, networking events and client visits.
Required Skills and Experience
• Previous experience in business development, sales, account management or client relationship management.
• Strong understanding of customer acquisition, sales strategy and commercial growth.
• Excellent communication, negotiation and presentation skills.
• Ability to build relationships with property professionals, businesses and private customers.
• Knowledge of the UK property maintenance, gas, heating, plumbing, construction or facilities services sector is desirable.
• Ability to prepare proposals, quotations and business reports.
• Good organisational and time-management skills.
• Confident using Microsoft Office, email, CRM systems and business communication tools.
• Ability to work independently and achieve business targets.
• Professional, target-driven and customer-focused approach.
Qualifications
• A bachelor’s degree or equivalent qualification in Business, Marketing, Management, Finance, Engineering or a related field is desirable.
• Relevant professional experience may be accepted in place of formal qualifications.
• Additional sales, marketing or business management qualifications would be advantageous.
• Must have knowledge of Business forecasting and Business budgeting.
Reporting Line
The Business Development Manager will report to the Managing Director or senior management team.
