Last week after 47+ years of working full time I take early retirement.

My career starting at 16 on the Coalface for National Coal Board as apprentice Electrician, Moving to Firefighter with Kent Fire & Rescue, Managing Director of an Electrical Contracting Company, Electrical Contracts Manager for Thames Water, and my last post as Senior Electrical Engineer at Canterbury Christ Church University where for the last 7 years I have been part of the Estates Team.

Since being at the university I have actively been involved in projects, from the minuscule to being part of team delivering the new multimillion pound flagship buildings & everything in between! Responsible for ensuring that Electrical (HV to LV to PAT), Lightning protection, Fire Alarms & Emergency Lighting compliance are always legal & safe for our staff & students.

I hand the batten over to my trusted right-hand man that I am sure will take the role to its next level.

I would like to thank all my colleagues in the whole Estates & Facilities department for their support & guidance, plus my excellent incumbent contractors who have made my life easier with there high standards & craftsmanship.

After a retirement break of 4 days 😊 I have returned to the Canterbury Christ Church University part-time as a Consultant Project Manager (Fire Systems) co-ordinating & being the Estates Project Team,s point of reference for updating the universities fire alarms & safety services to take Canterbury Christ Church University into the future for the safety of our students & staff.

I also intend to spend more time volunteering with (IET)The Institute of Engineering Technology supporting the next generation of Electrical Engineers.

Yesterday I handed my resignation/retirement in as Senior Electrical Engineer at Canterbury Christ Church University after 7 years working as part of the Estates Team.
I have decided to take early retirement from just after Christmas after I deliver my last project between Christmas & New Year.
Since being at the university I have actively been involved in projects, from the minuscule to being part of team delivering the new multimillion pound flagship buildings & everything in between!
Responsible for ensuring that Electrical (HV to LV to PAT), Lightning protection, Fire Alarms & Emergency Lighting compliance are always legal & safe for our staff & students.
I hope to be handing the baton over to my trusted right hand man that I am sure will take the role to its next level.

I pride myself working as the client’s technical point of reference taking the stakeholders often quite incomprehensible concept & requirements then designing to a point that the electrical contractors can determine the final technical specification & provide a quotation.
