Got a call from client recently about their Instant Hot Water tap not working any more, after looking at the obvious things like fuse, cold water flow in, checking valves etc i discovered the cylinder was full of limescale, the original installer hadnt connected the system to the water softener system, Gave Franke Minerva a call and they told me the unit was sealed and a replacement cylinder wasnt possible, it would have to be a new unit. I questioned this as i had removed the screws to open the unit, check electrical connection etc and had the tank out in front of me! They just wanted a quick sale! I again asked the person on the end of the phone as i had the tank out of the unit and was at that moment removing limescale from it, and would a tank be possible to purchase, he told me there was no way i had the tank out of the unit as they are sealed. They wanted £700 for a new unit, my client said they werent prepared to spend that money again on it and would make do with the kettle once more.
I took the unit away, descaled the tank, put it all back together and they now have an instant hot water tap once more.
