☀️ The change in weather is a much welcomed one! ☀️

It has made a noticeable improvement on our HV cable route project, its good to finally get some dry ground under us and build a bit of momentum.

It’s always the same this time of year, progress is there, it’s just harder earned. The difference a few dry days makes to productivity on civils works is huge.

One of the CJL CIVILS teams have been carrying out some reactive work this week after receiving a call from a client regarding a fault on a transformer cable.

Situations like this rarely come with much notice, so we worked quickly behind the scenes to move things around in our schedule. This was made possible by utilising our own plant and skilled operatives to excavate a joint bay allowing the client to access the cable and carry out the necessary repairs.

Reactive work often means adjusting programmes and making things happen at short notice but keeping clients operational when issues arise is priority for us.

Another catchpit completed up in Scotland recently.

This forms part of a wider scheme designed to capture and control surface water run off across the yard helping prevent contaminants entering the drainage system and supporting better environmental management on site.

Project we wrapped up a few weeks ago at a distribution facility, a few design changes and set backs along the way but the team reacted quickly and efficiently to overcome all obstacles.

Works involved alterations to the existing building along with installing a new internal highlevel powerfloat slab incorporating 6 dock levellers.

Back on one of our grid connection compound sites in Yorkshire this week applying the finishing stone to the DNO side of the compound ahead of the Christmas break.

Good to revisit a project at the final stages and see the detail coming together.

We’ll be returning in the new year to complete the client side of the compound but a solid milestone reached before the Christmas shutdown.

Credit to the site team for maintaining standards right through to the final works.

Good start to the week as the team mobilises on a new project involving internal and external concrete slab upgrades including dock leveller systems, RC wall construction and drainage diversions.

We’ve kicked things off with sawcutting and breaking out to prepare for the new reinforced slabs setting the foundation for a safe and efficient delivery phase.

Always good to see the lads getting stuck in from day one and keeping the site running smoothly from the outset.

A recently completed wash bay and drainage upgrade project.

This one came with a few challenges on site — mainly connecting into existing drainage where the invert levels didn’t work as planned. To make it function correctly we rerouted sections of the system to achieve the proper fall and ensure long term performance.

All of this was carried out while working around other contractors and keeping the surrounding areas live throughout — a real team effort to deliver safely, efficiently, and with minimal disruption.

Installing drainage manholes might not be the flashiest part of a project but it’s one of the most important.

Getting them right takes experience, precision, and teamwork. Every job brings its own challenges — from poor ground conditions and live services to tight working areas and unpredictable weather.

Our team overcomes these challenges through solid planning, skilled operators, and clear communication on site. We make sure each stage from excavation and base prep to benching and backfilling is done safely and accurately, so the system performs exactly as it should for years to come.

A nice little job recently completed for a new client at a school in Manchester — a small brush-finished slab for a new staircase finished off with full reinstatement of the surrounding area, including new turf and fencing.

Simple, tidy work carried out safely and to a high standard. Great effort from the team getting it wrapped up smoothly.

Proud to have delivered another quality project — this time on a small housing development. 🏡

Our team handled everything from demolition of existing, site clearance and cut & fill to foundations, drainage, and services — keeping the job moving safely, efficiently, and on programme.

Great effort from the lads on site and another solid result for the client.
