The new gates are looking great at Millom Old Library.

The metal gates were fabricated by AJ Johnson Ltd Welding & Fabrication.

The blue colour of the paintwork matches the original finish.

The surrounding section of wall, affected by subsidence, has been rebuilt as part of ongoing conservation works.

Led by Stobbarts on behalf of the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA), the works were related to the wider project to make the former library wind and watertight – preserving one of Millom’s most distinctive historic buildings for potential future use.

A key principle of work in conservation areas is ensuring historic materials are preserved wherever possible. The affected section was carefully taken down brick by brick, with new foundations laid before the wall was rebuilt and the original gateposts reinstated in their exact positions.

The new gate – an exact replica of the original – is now in place, completing the restored entrance.

The Public Reading Room and Free Library, established in 1887 and later used as council offices, remains an important part of Millom’s heritage. Although not listed, it sits within the town’s historic heart and conservation area.

We’re proud to play a part in protecting Millom’s built heritage.

🌊 Keeping it Clean for a Great Cause! 🧼
Huge thanks to the team at Maryport Inshore Rescue for giving one of our vans a good wash at their monthly car wash!

It was a brilliant day down at the harbour, and we’re proud to help support the incredible volunteers who keep our coastline safe. Our van is looking spotless, but the real highlight was seeing the community come together to raise vital funds for such an essential local service.

Why we support Maryport Rescue:

➡️ They are an independent lifeboat & search and rescue service.

➡️ They rely entirely on donations and community fundraising.

➡️ They provide 24/7 emergency cover for our local waters.

If you missed them this time, make sure to catch the next one! (Every 2nd Sunday of the month)

We are seeking an experienced Electrical Supervisor to lead on-site electrical operations across a variety of projects. This is a hands-on role combining technical expertise, team leadership, and client engagement.

Key Responsibilities:: Oversee and coordinate on-site teams, ensuring work is completed safely, on time, and to the highest quality standards. Conduct site inspections, enforce health & safety compliance, and liaise with clients and contractors. Manage resources, tools, and materials efficiently, and support project managers with progress reporting. The successful candidate will report to the Director / Contracts Manager.

Skills & Experience: Proven supervisory experience in electrical work, strong knowledge of electrical systems and installation practices, and familiarity with current regulations. Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills are essential.

Qualifications: NVQ Level 3 in Electrical Installation (or equivalent)
City & Guilds 18th Edition Wiring Regulations | ECS/CSCS Card | Full driving licence
