1948 Morgan 4/4, had been dry stored for many years.
Clients home visit to carry out a full assessment before discussing a plan of action for recommission. We prioritised the safety items first, such as brakes and perishable items before getting the car running and looking beautiful and able to start on the button to be enjoyed once again.

Well after our previous post last night about car meets which seems to have blown up 😂
We had a slow start this morning due to both of my lads off school on an inset day, so they were with me in the workshop but we made good progress on a few jobs.

🔸1938 Ford Model 85 is so so close to firing up for the first time.
🔸1970 Lancia Fulvia Berlina now completed following a service, dash wiring repairs, and corrosion in the boot. All set for its Tour of Ireland next week.
🔸VW Beetle chassis now has new brake lines throughout, gearbox and rear shafts fitted
🔸1989 Jeep Wrangler YJ recommission now has an MOT and fully road legal for the first time in around 15 years.

‼️It’s official…. Today’s ‘car scene’ is dead!
My 8 and 10 year old wanted to go to a modified car meet tonight, so I agreed, thinking it would be quite interesting.
What a waste of time. Where’s all of the imagination these days? Just a large bunch of BMW’s with popcorn pops and bangs, set of wheels and lowered.

I tried explaining to my lads about back in the 90’s / 2000’s when no one had credit cards, bank loans weren’t given out w***y nilly, and no one had finance.
Everyone owned what they drove, and we all built some epic motors! - bit sad to think what sort of scene my lads are growing into.
Although….. the only car that got my attention tonight was this Transit with tidy Cosworth conversion.

It’s no secret that Triumph TR5/6’s suffer notoriously with unreliable Lucas PI systems. If you own one then you’ll also note at just how much fuel smell is present in your boot - primarily caused by the original pumps being mounted in the boot which also caused them to overheat and fail.
Not only that, the The TR5’s factory wiring harness was built to the minimalist standards of 1960s British classic cars. The high current draw of the Lucas pump had to pass directly through the dashboard ignition switches without a modern relay protection layout. Over time, wiring resistance increased, voltages dropped, the pump slowed down, fuel pressure plummeted, and the vehicle starved for fuel. So basically they are crap! 😂

We have fitted in excess of 15 of these developed upgrade kits over the years. With a reliable high pressure Axial fuel pump mounted in a neat cradle externally - (more air flow, more cooling, no more fuel smells, and no fuel leaks in your boot), Adjustable Pressure Relief Valve (PRV), Pre Filter, High pressure Filter and Teflon lined pipe work upgrade.
Additional relay wiring is needed to cope with the new pumps 13 amp passing (original Lucas is 3 amp). Once fitted the Pressure is set correctly.

If you have a TR5/6 and want us to check over your fuel system and upgrade it please get in touch.
We can supply and fit these kits for you to ensure your TR runs reliable.

Making moves on the VW Beetle Chassis restoration.
All corrosion to both o/s and n/s rear floor sections cut out and new sections welded in. New jacking points welded in, and various other repairs throughout.
Chassis was then completely stripped and inspected, taken back to bare metal and treated before being coated in Chassis protective paint. And a coat of Wax inside the tunnel area to help protect against future corrosion in that hard to reach area.
The Front Beam had been previously repaired but the corrosion had come back through, so a new item from was sourced along with a box load of other parts needed.

Also took the chance to fit anti vibration pads to eliminate the renowned VW floor vibrations.

Now onto the Brakes and Suspension build up.

🔸 bushes. Why do we use them?
We’re noticing more and more these days that the quality of OEM rubber parts are of such a poor quality than they used to be, and not lasting more than a couple of years before beginning to perish.
Although upgrading to certain Polyurethane bushes seem a good idea due to their durability, sharper handling characteristics and often out lasting rubber items by 4-5 times, there are some very poor quality brands on the market. So be warned!
We have tried and tested various brands of Polyurethane bushes over the years and always come back to SuperPro. No they aren’t the cheapest on the market, but we’ve never had one fail yet.

If you’re thinking of upgrading bushes on your car, then give us a call and we can talk about the benefits of upgrading.
We can supply and fit to your car.

(Disclaimer - this is no way endorsed by SuperPro, nor are we taking any bribes whatsoever)! 😂
