On Tuesday, 21st April 2026, 30 women from Newmont's 10 host communities across Ahafo North and Ahafo South graduated from our Female Top-Up Programme.
Over eight months, these women trained in Truck, Plant, and Drill and Blast operations, building practical, safety critical skills that prepare them for work in mining.
This year, we invested $400,000 in the programme, and each graduate earned a Newmont Certificate of Competency.
While the Female Top-Up Programme does not guarantee employment, we are proud that 24 of the 30 graduates from this year’s cohort have already secured roles with Newmont. That represents an impressive 82.7 percent placement rate and reflects our commitment to inclusion, local talent development, and empowering women to thrive in all roles across our operations.
Since 2019, the programme has continued to grow steadily.
- The first cohort enrolled 15 women, with 14 completing the programme.
- The second cohort enrolled and graduated 15 women.
- The third cohort enrolled and graduated 30 women.
At Newmont, inclusion means building skills, creating access, and delivering real outcomes.

World Earth Day | Our Power, Our Planet

Today is World Earth Day, a reminder that protecting the environment is long‑term work shaped by partnership, accountability, and action.
At Newmont, this means working closely with the Government of Ghana and other stakeholders to restore land and strengthen ecosystems affected by mining activities.
Across our reclaimed sites, nature is beginning to return. Recent biodiversity monitoring has captured wildlife using restored habitats once again, from African civets and red‑flanked duikers to common genets and other small mammals. These sightings are a powerful sign that reclaimed land is once again providing food, shelter, and safe space for life to thrive.
Through our reclamation programme at Manso Nyankomanse in the Ashanti Region, we have restored 320 hectares of land, returning it to safe, stable, and productive use for the benefit of communities and future generations.
We continue to support Ghana's land restoration efforts, reinforcing our commitment to responsible land stewardship and environmental resilience across our areas of operation.
This is how responsibility becomes action, and how the land we work on today can thrive again tomorrow.

Series: Ahafo North Mine

The Ahafo North processing plant was commissioned in October 2025 and is designed to process approximately 3.7 million tonnes of ore per year. Ore delivered from the pits passes through a jaw crusher, followed by SAG and ball mill grinding. Gold recovery is achieved using a carbon‑in‑leach circuit, supported by an elution circuit and counter current decantation circuit. Tailings are managed through a tailings disposal facility, currently constructed to phase two of the life of mine plan, ensuring responsible materials management aligned with the mine’s long‑term design.
As of 31st December, 2025, Ahafo North’s gross investment in property, plant, and mine development stood at USD 1,114 million, reflecting the scale and capability of this modern operation.

“Local procurement is a powerful driver of shared value for communities and the mining industry.”

At the Mining for Development Forum in Goaso, Newmont shared how local procurement creates real opportunities for community based businesses and supports long term development in our host communities.
Speaking at the forum, Kofi Owusu, Lead for Supply Chain at Ahafo South, outlined how ring fenced opportunities, capacity building programmes, and regular engagement with local vendors are helping to strengthen local participation in mining, while building skills, jobs, and sustainable supply chains.
Here are some key quotes from his presentation.

Mining can and should create real opportunities for communities.
Speaking at the Ghana Chamber of Mines' Mining for Development Forum in Goaso, Ing. Alex Kofi Annin, General Manager of our Ahafo South mine, highlighted the power of going beyond royalties to grow local businesses and livelihoods.
Newmont initiatives like the Ahafo Linkages Programme and the Enhanced Local Procurement Programme are helping community suppliers build capacity, create jobs and succeed well beyond the mine.

Did you know?

In October 2025, Newmont was recognised at the HR Focus Africa Awards as Overall Best Organisation in HR Practice for the third consecutive time.
It was a proud moment that reflected the kind of workplace we continue to build. One grounded in inclusion, growth, and genuine care for our people.
That same evening, individual excellence within our People team was also recognised. Georgina Bartels, Director, People Operations and People Business Partner for Africa, was named HR Manager of the Year, while Rawbil Soale, People Specialist, Africa Projects, received the HR Rising Star of the Year award.
Looking back, it’s a reminder that strong cultures are built by people who show up with purpose and care for one another every day.

In an industry often seen as male‑dominated, inclusion means creating an environment for everyone to thrive, including new mothers returning to work.
At our Ahafo North mine, we’ve commissioned a lactation suite designed with privacy, dignity and care at its heart.
This safe, hygienic and comfortable space supports nursing mothers as they transition back to work, with thoughtful features such as comfortable seating and refrigeration for milk storage.
More than a room, it reflects our care for women balancing work, motherhood and everything in between, and our belief that they deserve the support and space to succeed.
That’s what Inclusion looks like to us: supporting our workforce in real, practical ways and creating space for them to keep growing through every stage of life.
