AngloGold Ashanti Iduapriem Mine AGA, Iduapriem Mine is located in the Western Region of Ghana, about 17km southwest of Tarkwa. It also became part of the AngloGold Group in 2004.

The Mine started operation in June 1992 as the Ghanaian Australian Goldfields Limited.

At the recent World Day for Safety and Health at Work conference held at the Mövenpick Ambassador Hotel,” Habeebi Jillian Opoku Ansah, Senior Nursing Officer and Employee Wellness Coordinator, contributed to a panel discussion. She shared insights on the Mine’s wellbeing initiatives and their positive impact on employee well-being and productivity.

The event was organised by Safety, Health, Environment and Quality Practitioners Association of Ghana (SHEQPA-Ghana) in partnership with the Minerals Commission (Inspectorate Division) under the theme “The Psychosocial Working Environment: Global Developments and Pathways for Action.” It brought together representatives from Ghana Chamber of Mines, mining companies, safety practitioners, regulators and occupational health professionals.

As part of the exhibition, Dr George Obeng, Superintendent – Medical Health & Safety; Jeaniette Osei- Danso, Superintendent – Mine Rehabilitation and Closure Planning; and Maxwell Osei- Danso, Senior Officer – Mining Safety, engaged stakeholders on safety systems, mental wellbeing, and environmental sustainability programmes.

AngloGold Ashanti Iduapriem Mine marked this year’s World Day for Safety and Health at Work through active participation in a symposium organised by the Disaster and Emergency Management (DEM) Hub of the University of Mines and Technology (UMaT)

Manager – Safety, Eric Gyamfi Appiah delivered a speech under the theme “Integrating Psychosocial Safety into the Ghanaian Working Environment: From Policy to Practice.” In his presentation, he emphasized the importance of integrating mental and emotional wellbeing into safety frameworks to strengthen decision-making, enhance employee wellbeing, and improve overall safety performance.

Dr Kwesi Gyeni Annor, Manager – Health Services, also led a poster presentation on the Mine’s Employee Wellbeing Programme, sharing key insights from a 2024 baseline mental health survey. In recognition of his leadership and sustained commitment to promoting a strong safety culture, Eric Gyamfi Appiah was presented with a citation. Iduapriem Mine was also presented with a citation in recognition of its sustained commitment to advancing workplace safety and psychosocial wellbeing.
