🚀 The "GET TO KNOW OHB HELLAS" series comes to a close with a spotlight on our Advanced Manufacturing (AM) Department — the mechanical backbone of our team. 🚀

Our AM team pioneers innovative approaches in additive manufacturing, developing advanced components and leading in-house R&D projects. We skillfully handle mechanical design systems tailored for space and aerospace applications, covering all stages from conceptual design and detailed analysis to thermomechanical integrity assessments and Design of Experiments (DoE).

We transform visionary ideas into real-world solutions, combining deep technical expertise with creativity to push the boundaries of what’s possible. Our passion for space drives us to bring ambitious mechanical concepts to life, fueling the future of exploration and innovation.

🌌 Today at EDHPC2025, Evgenios Tsigkanos presented our approach to Satellite-as-a-Service, orchestrating ML workloads across various edge hardware platforms like a cloud cluster. 🚀

Our demo highlighted applications such as vessel, cloud, flood, and fire detection. We harnessed the power of different hardware accelerators, including Xilinx Kria DPU, BrainChip Akida, Coral TPU, and Myriad 2, for representative on-board inference and performance. Our in-house AI models, along with compatibility for third-party models, enable on-board inference, reducing latency for quicker decisions, conserving bandwidth by transmitting processed data, and ensuring operation through communication gaps.
We extend our gratitude to our industry and academic collaborators, as well as ESA, whose efforts helped us navigate the hardware landscape.

🚀 Greece in ‘Missions That Matter’

We are proud to announce OHB Hellas’ expansion in Crete and our participation to LISA mission, which was mentioned last week in the frame of ESA’s 7th Quantum Technology Conference in Crete, hosted by ESA and FORTH.

✔️ Since 2018, OHB Hellas has been advancing Greek participation in major ESA missions like PLATO and now LISA, through space systems engineering and cutting-edge space technologies.

🌐 In 2025, we’ve taken a strategic leap by expanding into the Science and Technology Park of Crete in FORTH.

🧠 Our goal: to position Greece as a significant contributor to Europe’s technological competitiveness in advanced Orbital High-Performance Computing (OHPC), with a focus on Artificial Intelligence (AI) onboard satellites – unlocking future mission capabilities and business models like “Satellite-as-a-Service.”

Two weeks ago, we introduced you to our talented OHPC (Orbital High-Performance Computing) team, diving into their pioneering work in embedded systems and space data processing. Now, we're thrilled to announce our next feature in the "GET TO KNOW OHB HELLAS" series: Satellites and Ground Systems (SGS)!
SGS Team is the backbone of our space missions. Our experts design, integrate, and validate advanced satellite systems, ensuring seamless communication across every mission phase. From radio frequency engineering and antenna design to onboard software verification and validation, our team’s technical competences support word class projects like ESA’s PLATO mission.
Beyond engineering excellence, we foster international collaborations and explore new opportunities to drive innovation and strengthen our regional space capabilities.

Meet OHB Hellas and Evgenios at EDHPC 2025. and are proud to participate and sponsor EDHPC 2025, with Evgenios Tsigkanos representing our Orbital High-Performance Computing team at the event. We will be presenting two papers:

* Satellite-as-a-Service Architecture for ML Edge Computing on Heterogeneous Processing Platforms

* Synthetic Data Generators for Enhanced Space-Based Network Traffic Modeling

Evgenios Tsigkanos will also co-chair the "AI Model Optimization & Reliability (B11)" technical session, planned for Friday 17 October at 09:00.

EDHPC organised by the European Space Agency (ESA), is a key forum for discussing the future of on-board computers, data handling, data processing, and microelectronics for space applications.

The OHPC department is a dynamic and pioneering unit, specializing in advanced embedded systems engineering with a core focus on high-performance data processing executed directly onboard satellite. Our team possesses deep technical expertise in hardware acceleration and FPGA-based digital design, enabling us to seamlessly integrate complex space applications across a wide range of processing architectures.

We design, implement, and validate state-of-the-art Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning algorithms to enhance spacecraft autonomy and facilitate real-time data transmission to Earth.
