Budapest pool acrylic installation just completed.
Brief summary of the project.
Initially, the client had already built a concrete structure for glass installation. After clarifying that we only install acrylic panels, we proposed using stainless steel supports (AISI 316) to avoid rebuilding the concrete frame.
Steel Frame Study
Material: Stainless steel AISI 316 (Tensile: ~515 MPa, Yield: ~205 MPa)
Dimensions: 5080 × 1280 mm (frame), 4618 × 1254 mm (acrylic), 130 mm recess
Acrylic Load:
Density: 1180 kg/m³
Volume: 0.505 m³ → Mass: ~596 kg → Weight: ~5850 N
Calculated Performance:
Max stress: 1.81 MPa
Deformation: 1.99 mm
Recommended U-channel: 130 mm high, 6 mm thick, ensuring stiffness < 2 mm deflection
Anchoring & Assembly
Concrete: C25/30
Anchors: M12 chemical type, 150 mm long, 100 mm embedment, spaced 400–500 mm
Mounting holes: Ø14 mm, spaced every 450 mm
Finish: Satin or mirror-polished stainless steel
Final Decision
Due to limited local availability and complex installation of the steel system, the client opted to reconstruct the concrete supports per our design and install the acrylic directly on concrete.
Installation Logistics
Because the pool was located behind the house with restricted access and no room for a telescopic crane, installation used:
A self-leveling platform to transport the acrylic panel.
A spider crane for final positioning and installation.
