Great news at Creative Nano!

Our book chapter, “Safe and Sustainable by Design Electrolytic Ni Nanocomposite Coatings: An Eco-Conscious Alternative to Hard Chromium,” has just been published online with open access in the IntechOpen volume “Fundamentals, Processing and Testing of Coatings for Materials and Surface Protection.”

In this chapter, we present our latest advances in SSbD nanocomposite coatings for greener electroplating, featuring impactful results from a scaled-up, eco-conscious, boric-acid-free electrolytic bath developed at Creative Nano, funded by the MOZART EU Project. The work demonstrates a practical, industrially relevant pathway toward more sustainable surface-finishing solutions without compromising performance.

Hard chromium (HC) coatings are widely used in the metal finishing industry due to their excellent wear and corrosion resistance. However, their production involves hexavalent chromium ions, a substance classified by the European Commission as toxic, carcinogenic, and mutagenic. Moreover, boric a...

Last week, the Sustain a Print consortium held its final review meeting, concluding three years of joint work under Horizon Europe. Throughout the project, partners from research and industry worked jointly to advance sustainable materials, innovative processing methods, and environmentally responsible approaches for the field of printed electronics. The review meeting offered the opportunity to present our results, demonstrate the progress achieved across all work packages, and discuss how the project’s outcomes can contribute to EU priorities in sustainability, circularity, and green innovation. Sustain-a-Print’s outcomes provide a solid basis for future impact across the sector and for advancing environmentally responsible manufacturing.

Our partners from ISQ recently visited Creative Nano to carry out a worker exposure assessment related to the functionalization and hybridization of MXenes with Graphene Oxide as part of the Safari Project. During the visit, they monitored nano- and micro-particle levels in the lab throughout these processes. These measurements will support the identification of appropriate precautionary measures to ensure the safe handling of these emerging materials.

We’ve officially crossed into the future of surface engineering!
Within the FreeMe project , our team at Creative Nano has successfully metallized real-life plastic demonstrators for the automotive, aerospace, and household appliance industries — using a method that’s 100% free of Hexavalent Chromium (Cr6+) and Palladium (Pd).

✨ No toxins.
🔬 No critical raw materials.
🌱 Just pure innovation — safe and sustainable by design.

These aren’t lab samples. They’re functional, precision-engineered components ready to meet industrial demands — with stunning finishes and uncompromising performance.

💡 Developed in-house. Validated in real-world conditions.
🌍 Aligned with EU sustainability goals.

More breakthroughs coming soon — stay tuned.
