🌱 Meet BioActiveWool: circular innovation for sustainable olive cultivation
What if an underused agricultural by-product could become part of a new generation of sustainable farming inputs?
BioActiveWool is exploring exactly that.
The project combines sheep-wool pellets with microbial biostimulants and evaluates the resulting solution under real olive-growing conditions in Crete and Halkidiki, Greece.
By bringing together circular bioeconomy principles, biological innovation and field validation, BioActiveWool aims to investigate how this approach can support:
♻️ the valorisation of sheep wool as a local bio-based resource
🌱 improved soil and plant performance
💧 more efficient use of agricultural resources
🫒 more sustainable Mediterranean olive cultivation
Field trials, monitoring and laboratory analyses are being carried out to assess the solution’s agronomic effectiveness, understand its mode of action and generate practical knowledge for future deployment.
The project is coordinated by Mediterranean Agrofood Competence Center – MACC, in collaboration with Internet of Food Alliance – INOFA and olive grower Christos Kampanis.
Over the coming months, we will be sharing the journey of BioActiveWool — from field application and monitoring to the final results.
