BEAM - Beyond Earth Aristotle Missions

BEAM - Beyond Earth Aristotle Missions We are a Space Technology and Research Student Team of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki B.E.A.M.

Ο διαγωνισμός NASA Space Apps είναι ένας μαραθώνιος καινοτομίας (hackathon) 48 ωρών, που λαμβάνει χώρα σε περισσότερες από 200 πόλεις ανα τον κόσμο και διοργανώνεται από την NASA. is a student space research group founded by students of the Electrical Engineering and Computer Engineering Department with the aim of participating in the REXUS/BEXUS Programme. The group's first project was called SHADE (SDR Helix Antenna Deployment Experiment) and concerned the study of a mechanism for deploying a helix antenna. Since then, the team participates in every cycle of the REXUS/BEXUS competition, presenting new and innovative ideas to be implemented, while also being active in different competitions related to space research such as IGLUNA, CanSat Greece and NASA Space Apps. To date, the team measures six experiments: SHADE, ECOWISE, LIGHT, Star Trackers, DROPSTAR and LISER, each of which has a different object of study. The REXUS/BEXUS programme is realised under a bilateral Agency Agreement between the German Aerospace Center (DLR) and the Swedish National Space Agency (SNSA). The REXUS/BEXUS programme is further realised with the help of ESA, ZARM, EuroLaunch, MORABA and SSC. The IGLUNA competition is a student program aimed at raising public awareness of space and is organized by the Swiss Space Agency. CanSat in Greece is a panhellenic competition regarding space technology. It is organized by SPIN – Space Innovation in cooperation with ESA and the World CanSat & Rocketry Competition (WCRC). Nasa’s International Space Apps Challenge is an innovation hackathon with a duration of 48 hours, taking place in over 200 cities worldwide and is organized by NASA.

New Project Alert! 📣

We’re thrilled to announce that BEAM 4th Gen and their experiment IASIS-X have been shortlisted for the REXUS/BEXUS Program!🎉
The team’s proposal stood out among the entries and they’re now preparing for the Selection Workshop in late November!

Their experiment, IASIS-X, investigates how self-healing polymers behave in microgravity, aiming to understand how the absence of gravity affects fluid flow, diffusion, and bond reformation — the core processes that allow materials to “heal” themselves.
By studying these mechanisms in space conditions, the project takes a major step toward developing spacecraft materials that can autonomously repair damage, improving the safety and longevity of future space missions. ✨

Good luck to the team as they move forward to the next exciting stage of the REXUS/BEXUS journey! 🚀
