Yesterday, the participants were split into groups and engaged in a Non-Destructive Examination (NDE) practical: Liquid Penetrant Testing. The lesson conducted was to give the participants a visual of how to use Liquid Penetrant (LP) as a testing method to detect surface - breaking flaws such as laps, cracks and porosity.

As such these steps were followed:

1. Surface Preparation. Participants started by removing any contaminants on the surface.

2. Application of Penetrant (skl-sp2). The penetrant was then sprayed unto the surface so that it gets into the cracks of the material. This is how the defects were identified.

3. Dwell Time. Upon application of the penetrant the standard time is 10 mins dwell time, but for this practical 5 mins was used.

4. Removal of Excess Penetrant. Once the penetrant goes into the material then the excess remaining on the surface was removed using rags, a cleaner (skc-s) was also applied to remove any excess penetrant.

5. Spray the Developer. The participants then sprayed the developer to extract the penetrant that was absorbed into the material which will in-turn pinpoint the exact location of any defects or cracks within the material.

In collaboration with Global Compliance Service Guyana Inc., Go NDE Inc’s, Learn and Earn Training Program has commenced.

Currently, they are 20 participants that will be undergoing both the theory and practical training for the next six weeks on the leading services that Go NDE Inc provides.

Over the course of the next 3 weeks all participants will partake in level 1 Non- Destructive Examination (NDE):

-Liquid Penetrant Testing (LPT)
-Visual Inspection (VI)
-Magnetic Particle Inspection (MPI)
-Ultrasonic Testing (UT)
-Leak testing (LT)

In order for participants to move forward to Level 2, they must pass at a grade average of 80%.

The main objective of this training program is to develop the potential of locals that are aspiring to venture into the oil and gas sector.

Today we join in celebration to thank our foreparents as we reflect on their many contributions to this land of ours.

Indian Arrival Day in Guyana takes place on May 5th. Other countries, including the Caribbean, Fiji, South Africa, and Mauritius, also celebrates the holiday on various dates to commemorate the arrival of Indian immigrants brought by European colonial authorities as indentured labourers. It is a public holiday in Guyana, Mauritius, and Trinidad and Tobago. Indian Arrival Day is meant to recognize the contributions of these immigrants to the nation’s development and history.

Our Indian ancestors also brought traditional seasonings, cuisines, music, Hindi words and phrases that still holds a key role in Caribbean festivals today. This history is what enrichens our beautiful nation.
