The HKIE Young Members Committee (YMC) was delighted to co-organise the Joint Professional Young Members Networking Drink 2026 on August 20 at The Hong Kong Club. ๐Ÿธ

Hosted by Ir Edmund Leung, the event brought together young professionals from engineering, accounting, architecture, surveying, planning, legal, management, design, landscape architecture, and directorship disciplines. The gathering provided an excellent platform for participants to exchange insights, broaden perspectives, and build meaningful connections across professions๐Ÿ’ก.

In todayโ€™s increasingly interconnected world, collaboration beyond our own disciplines is more important than ever. We were pleased to see lively discussions, valuable networking opportunities, and the formation of new friendships among professionals from diverse backgrounds ๐Ÿ™Œ.

Today, HKIE YMC co-organized an incredible technical visit with HKIHT, ICE HKA G&S, and IMechE HKB to the GBA Shiziyang Passagewayโ€”a monumental national-level mega-project in the GBA! ๐Ÿ‡จ๐Ÿ‡ณ๐Ÿš€

A massive thank you to the 11 HKIE YMC members who joined our team on the frontline today. Seeing our young engineers engage with such heavy infrastructure is truly rewarding! ๐Ÿ’ช

Project Highlights:

๐Ÿ”น World-Class Scale: A 16-lane layout across two levels, connecting Guangzhou Nansha and Dongguan Binhai Bay.

๐Ÿ”น The Bridge Masterpiece: The Shiziyang Bridge featuring a breathtaking 2,180-metre main span (โ€™one-span river crossingโ€˜) and 342-metre main towers.

๐Ÿ”น Engineering Feats: Breaking multiple world records in suspension bridge engineering under high-wind and coastal environments.

Are you a young engineer exploring the Biomedical discipline and wondering how to become a Professional Engineer? This online session is the perfect opportunity to gain clear guidance and have your questions answered! ๐ŸŽฏ

The Young or Ready Series (YoRS) is specially designed to help young members decide and equip themselves for the route to becoming a professional engineer in different disciplines. It provides up-to-date information on Professional Assessment, addresses common queries and misconceptions, and helps you fully understand the requirements as well as how to demonstrate all the competences set out in the HKIE Competence Standard. The session will cover key elements in competence-based professional assessment, suggestions on training focus before applying, continuous professional development, keys to success in the Professional Assessment, and will include a dedicated Question-and-Answer session.
Speakers:
Ir CHOW Yuk Ki Yorkie, Deputy Chairman, Biomedical Discipline Advisory Panel 2025/2026 and Ir SHUM Ka Yu Sam, Engineer, Electrical and Mechanical Services Department.
The seminar will be conducted in Cantonese (presentation materials in English).
