This long period may interact with massive objects such as black hole, neutron stars. As a result, it is controlled by these massive objects. It erupts again and again and becomes another black hole or neutron star. This nova may be a binary system.
Hydrogen -> deuteron -> helium-3 ->helium-4
-> energy (accelerated its internal reactions)
