The AusIMM Hong Kong Branch is going to hold The AusIMM Hong Kong Branch August Technical Meeting, with Mr. Shawn Crispin, the Chief Geologist from G-Resources as the honorary speaker. The topic will be “Challenges and Opportunities of Exploration and Mining in SE Asia: An Indonesian perspective”.

With the help of PACRIM Congress 2015 organizing committee, the Minerals Industry Technical Education Day (MITED) was successfully held on 16th March. MITED was firstly run by the AusIMM Brindabella (ACT) student chapter as an inauguratory event in 2014. This year, the PACRIM Congress organizing committee has invited professionals from various geological aspects to deliver talks and hold discussion to enhance students’ understanding towards the mining industry. Thanks to their support. Along with nice pizza and drinks, our participants did have a great time.

Paul Cromie - Chief geologist of Anglo American
Sonia Konopa - Experienced geologist of AMC consultant

[First Mine Site Visit!] AUSIMM HK Branch Student Chapter is going to hold a visit to the abandoned mine in Needle Hill. The site was one of the LARGEST tungsten mines in Hong Kong during the 1950s. Between 1956 and 1967 about 200 tons of tungsten concentrates were extracted from the mine. Some mine ores and underground adits (entrances) can still be seen today. We are delighted to have Miss Trudy Kwong as our professional guide. Do not hesitate to join the visit and explore the marvelous geology and mineralogy!

AusIMM Hong Kong Branch Student Chapter is holding the Anglo American-sponsored Minerals Industry Technical Education Day (MITED) on Monday 16th March at JL104, James Hsioung Lee Science Building, The University of Hong Kong. The event will begin with a networking lunch at 12:00 noon, followed with talks and sharings on a wide range of topics related to the mining industry by several speakers overseas.
