🚧🏙️ HKA: technical visit to Six Pacific Place (6PP) subway construction👷♂️
On 25 April 2026, ICE HKA members had the opportunity to visit the Six Pacific Place (6PP) Subway Construction Project in Admiralty — a technically challenging underground works project located beneath one of Hong Kong’s busiest commercial districts. It was an insightful and engaging morning for all participants. ☀️
👷♂️ The visit commenced with a comprehensive project briefing delivered by the site team, introducing the construction of a 77-metre underground pedestrian subway linking Six Pacific Place and Three Pacific Place. Participants gained valuable insights into the complexities of tunnelling beneath an active urban environment, including deep excavation works and the challenges associated with soft ground, mixed ground conditions, and rock cover. The session also highlighted the critical importance of geotechnical risk management and careful planning in such a constrained setting.
💡 A key highlight of the visit was the guided site tour, where members observed first-hand the tight site constraints, including limited working space, stringent noise and traffic control measures, and the need for close coordination with multiple stakeholders. Participants were particularly impressed by the adoption of innovative construction technologies, Permit-to-Work workflows, showcasing how digitalisation is enhancing safety, efficiency, and project delivery in modern construction.
👏 ICE HKA would like to express our sincere appreciation to the project team for their warm hospitality and generous sharing. This visit provided a valuable platform for members to deepen their understanding of complex underground construction in a dense urban environment and to learn from industry best practices and innovations.
Stay tuned for more upcoming technical visits and learning opportunities!
