The venue is on the B floor (ground floor). Once you enter through the main entrance, turn left from the lobby.

🚗 Parking: A parking garage is available (charged hourly), and there are also parking spots near Algebra.

Prof. Leo Mršić PhD in his professional, scientific and professional works in the fields of technical sciences/computer science, social sciences/information sciences and economics, combining achievements in the development of digital technologies with social and economic challenges.
He is the Vice-Rector for Science and Research at Algebra University, the director of the Algebra LAB Research and Innovation Center, the head of the Digital Transformation Center at the Rudolfovo Public Research Center (SLO), the head of the BDV i-Gold Algebra LAB Data Center. He is a member of the National Council for Higher Education, Science and Technological Development, where he serves as Vice President for Technological Development and Innovation.
He graduated in business economics from the Department of Foreign Trade at the Faculty of Economics and Business in Zagreb in 1997, obtain a master's degree in the field of business informatics on the topic of application of data models in market analysis at the Department of Informatics, Faculty of Economics and Business in Zagreb in 2005, and obtained his PhD in graph theory and modeling of advanced analytical systems in predicting market movements at the Department of Information and Communication Sciences Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences in Zagreb in 2012.
With over 25 years of experience in academia and industry, Prof. Mršić has led more than 100 collaborative projects and is a member of organizations such as IEEE, ACIS, and IETI. He specializes in AI systems, market prediction, and digital transformation.

During his lecture, Professor Korngreen will:

Introduce the Gonda Multidisciplinary Brain Research Center, a hub for groundbreaking research in neuroscience.

Explore the evolution of data processing in neuroscience over the past decades.

Present the Erasmus Mundus Joint Master’s Degree in Neuroscience and Data Science (NeuroData), a two-year master’s program designed for students from diverse fields such as biomedicine, biomedical engineering, computer science, and ICT.

The NeuroData program, conducted entirely in English, equips students with interdisciplinary skills needed to address complex challenges in neuroscience, bridging the gap between biological science and data analysis.

About Professor Alon Korngreen

Professor Korngreen has been a faculty member at Bar-Ilan University since 2001, with a distinguished career in neuroscience. After earning his PhD in Biophysics from Ben-Gurion University in 1997, he conducted postdoctoral research in the lab of Nobel laureate Professor Bert Sakmann, focusing on nonlinear dendritic integration in cortical neurons.

At Bar-Ilan University, his research delves into how neurons process information, exploring the neuronal code at the cellular level and the role of synaptic integration in neuronal activity.

We bring you another lecture which will be given to us at this year's edition of Brainhack Zagreb!
Dr. Viviana Greco from Neuromatch will tell us about the initiative in her talk "Neuromatch: Redefining Education in Computational Sciences"

Dr. Viviana Greco is a neuroscientist and Special Projects Manager at Neuromatch, a global nonprofit dedicated to democratizing science through inclusive education and mentorship. In her role, she leads the Impact Scholars Program, an initiative that empowers early-career scientists to collaborate on innovative research projects, providing hands-on experience and professional development. Additionally, she conducts data analysis for the Neuromatch Academy, shaping insights that enhance its global educational impact.
Dr. Greco earned her PhD from Cardiff University, where her research explored sleep manipulation techniques to enhance health outcomes and cognitive performance.

Passionate about science communication, Dr. Greco actively works to make science accessible to a global audience. She organizes and promotes scientific talks, hosts events that connect scientists with the public, and writes on scientific topics for non-specialists. Through her efforts, she aims to foster greater understanding and appreciation of science in everyday life.

We bring you our first two lecturers from Algebra University!

Dr. sc. Mateo Sokač
Topic: Integrating Multi-Omics Data: Leveraging Spatial Transformation, Non-Parametric Methods, and Machine Learning for Biological Insights

About Mateo:
Motivated by a desire to merge medicine and technology, dr.sc. Mateo Sokač began his academic journey with a master’s degree in bioinformatics at Aarhus University in Denmark. He collaborated with Nicolai Juul Birkbak, a renowned researcher in molecular biology, to work on cancer evolution and machine learning, examining the transformation of normal cells into tumor cells and the underlying biological mechanisms. This research included using Next Generation Sequencing methods and analyzing vast genomic data by developing machine learning models. The main goal was to apply his research in healthcare to improve personalized cancer treatments based on patient-specific genomics. After completing his PhD and a one-year postdoctoral position in Denmark, dr.sc. Sokač returned to Croatia, aiming to continue solving challenging questions in cancer research.
