From tavern decoration to historical treasure: the only known flag of the Margraviate of Istria, dating back around 150 years, was discovered in a Baška tavern about 15 years ago by local collector Željko Skomeršić, who suspected its importance. It was identified as the flag of the Margraviate of Istria by Croatian vexillologist Željko Heimer, and was recently restored in Split by textile conservator Bruna Periš through a complex conservation process that included freezing at −20°C to eliminate pests, followed by cleaning, stabilization, and repair of the historic fabric.
