If you could give farm managers a single piece of advice on reducing invisible losses, what would it be?

We asked Dr. Balázs Vásárhelyi, veterinarian and Technical Sales Manager at Dr. Bata Ltd.
The short answer: think about prevention as a complete system.
But what does this mean in practice, from feed safety and weaning all the way through the fattening period?

👉 Read our expert’s answer!

If I could give one piece of advice, it would be to think about prevention as a complete system. Gut health does not depend on one product or one intervention. Good hygiene and biosecurity, appropriate housing and management practices, high-quality feed and water, and minimizing unnecessary stress all create the foundation for healthy and consistently performing animals.
Once these foundations are in place, targeted nutritional solutions can help farmers manage specific risks at different stages of production.
The first step is feed safety. Contaminated or poor-quality feed can compromise gut health and animal performance before any visible symptoms appear. Detoxa Plus supports feed safety through an enzymatic approach that breaks down mycotoxins and helps protect animals from one of the often-overlooked sources of invisible losses.
Another critical point is weaning. This is one of the most challenging periods in pig production, when changes in diet, environment and social conditions can put significant pressure on gut function. Colistat offers a natural and effective alternative to zinc oxide (ZnO), which is already banned or restricted in many countries and is likely to face further restrictions in the future. Unlike ZnO, Colistat does not contribute to environmental zinc accumulation or antimicrobial resistance. At the same time, it supports gut health during the transition and can help improve feed conversion and weight gain, giving producers a more sustainable way to maintain performance and improve weaning security.
During the fattening period, maintaining gut health and a balanced microbiome is essential for achieving consistent production performance. Depending on the dosage, Dysantic can be used both preventively and as a targeted solution against dysentery and ileitis. Its active ingredients can inhibit the pathogens responsible for these diseases, helping to control the underlying challenge rather than simply addressing its symptoms. At the same time, by supporting gut health and maintaining a balanced digestive system, Dysantic can contribute to improved feed conversion, growth and overall production performance. This makes it a valuable tool for protecting both animal health and the economic efficiency of the fattening period.
For us, this is what preventive production should look like: addressing the key risks at the points where they can have the greatest impact. Detoxa Plus for feed safety, Colistat for weaning security, and Dysantic for fattening efficiency — a targeted approach to protecting animal performance before invisible losses become visible ones.

🧪 The future of sustainable livestock production begins with science.

We are proud to share that the latest research conducted with the contribution of Dr. Bata Ltd. has been published in the peer-reviewed international journal Animals (MDPI).

The study investigated how the combined application of prebiotics, probiotics, and postbiotics can support intestinal health and promote a balanced immune response.

The findings suggest that science-based preventive nutritional strategies can play an important role in the future of sustainable livestock production while helping reduce reliance on antibiotic growth promoters.

This publication represents more than a new scientific achievement. It provides an important scientific foundation upon which future innovations supporting sustainable livestock production can be built.

At Dr. Bata Ltd., we believe that meaningful innovation begins with science.

Strengthening Partnerships Across Borders

We were delighted to welcome our valued partners from the Philippines, representing Animal Care Eco System and Li-Dav Agribis, to Hungary for a five-day visit filled with knowledge sharing, collaboration, and cultural experiences. The visit provided an excellent opportunity to strengthen our partnership, exchange ideas, and showcase both our company's expertise and our beautiful home country.

As part of the Dr. Bata Experience Exchange Program, we hosted two dedicated seminars designed to promote knowledge sharing and strengthen technical collaboration. The first seminar focused on our company's recent achievements, ongoing developments, and our commitment to maintaining the highest standards through effective quality control management. We were also proud to present our latest scientific advances, with Dr. Viviana Molnár-Nagy, R&D Director, introducing our new enzymatic development for mycotoxin inactivation and sharing the latest research behind this innovative technology.

The second seminar introduced our partners to two of our most successful solutions, Detoxa Plus and Dysantic, highlighting their unique features, practical applications, and the value they deliver to both our customers and the livestock industry.

Our guests also toured our production facility and laboratories, gaining first-hand insight into our manufacturing processes, research activities, and the quality standards behind our products.

Beyond the professional program, we were proud to introduce our partners to some of Hungary's most beautiful destinations, including Budapest, Lake Balaton, and the historic town of Szentendre. To make the visit even more memorable, we also spent a day together exploring Vienna, Austria.

We believe that strong partnerships are built on trust, open communication, and shared experiences. Thank you to our partners for visiting us—we look forward to many more successful years of cooperation together.

Prevention starts before the problem becomes visible.

Gut health plays a fundamental role in animal performance. Yet in many cases, attention is only given to the gastrointestinal tract once clinical signs have already appeared.

The reality is that the process often begins much earlier.

An imbalance in the intestinal tract may contribute to:
✔️ slower weight gain,
✔️ poorer feed conversion,
✔️ longer finishing periods,
✔️ and a gradual decline in overall production performance.

This is why prevention has become a key focus in modern animal production. Supporting gut health before problems arise can help reduce hidden production losses and improve long-term performance.

At Dr. Bata Ltd., this preventive approach was the driving force behind the development of Dysantic.

Dysantic is designed to support intestinal health, help maintain microbial balance, and contribute to optimal digestive function—supporting animals before hidden losses become visible.

Because the best results come from preventing problems, not only treating them.

BV Lab Officially Opens in Brazil!

We are proud to share the official opening of BV Lab in Chapecó, Brazil, established through the collaboration of Vetanco, Dr. Bata Ltd., and Santa Catarina State University (UDESC).
As broiler, cattle, and swine production systems become increasingly standardized worldwide, local conditions, regional characteristics, and predisposing factors continue to influence animal health and production performance.

BV Lab was established to investigate these locally occurring predisposing factors and to support the development of solutions that can help prevent or mitigate their impact in real production environments.

The new laboratory brings together research and development, quality control, and advanced diagnostic technologies, creating an even stronger connection between scientific research and the practical challenges of animal production.

Dr. Bata Ltd. was represented at the official opening by Melinda Váradi, Chief Operating Officer (COO).

The establishment of BV Lab marks another important milestone in the global partnership between Vetanco and Dr. Bata Ltd., opening new opportunities for joint research, development, and innovation.

We are proud to be part of this exciting new chapter!

🌡️ Supporting Our Partners During the Summer Heat

Hungary has now entered its second consecutive week of extreme summer temperatures, creating significant challenges for broiler production. Recently, together with our technical consultant, Dr. József Gyenis, we visited a broiler farm in the southern region of Hungary, where summer heat is particularly intense, to discuss practical solutions for reducing the impact of heat stress.

High temperatures can reduce feed intake, slow growth, worsen feed conversion, and increase mortality. That is why it is essential to implement practical measures that help maintain flock performance during periods of extreme heat.

During our visit, we reviewed the farm's ventilation system and discussed simple, cost-effective solutions to improve cooling efficiency, including optimizing the use of the farm's water system to help reduce heat load.

We also focused on oxidative stress, which becomes more pronounced at elevated temperatures and can negatively affect the birds' health and productivity. Our feed additives help support the birds' natural antioxidant defenses, reducing the harmful effects of oxidative stress and improving resilience during challenging conditions.

🤝 We believe that supporting our partners goes far beyond supplying high-quality products. Being present, sharing expertise, and working together to solve everyday challenges are all essential parts of building long-term partnerships.
