The story of PalletBiz started in a rented double-garage in Kaunas, Lithuania in 1998. Thanks to our remarkable clients and partners we built up a powerful and unique network, which made our company one of the leaders in the Packaging and Handling industry in Europe. When do we actually need to do what?

Most PPWR coverage makes it sound like everything happens at once. It is not. Here is the timeline that matters if you use pallets, collars, crates or metal load carriers.

✅ 11 February 2025 - PPWR Entered into force. Criteria for reusable packaging started applying.
✅ 12 August 2026 - Applies across the EU. Declarations of Conformity required.
✅ 12 August 2028 - Harmonised labelling begins, at the earliest. Transport packaging is exempt from consumer waste-sorting labels.
✅ 1 January 2030 - The main cluster. Design-for-recycling grades, packaging minimisation, a 50% empty space limit, and 40% reuse for transport packaging. Transport packaging moving between your own sites must in principle be reusable, though pallet wrapping films and straps are exempt from that rule.

➡️ 1 January 2035 - Packaging must be recyclable at scale.
➡️ 1 January 2038 - Packaging must reach recyclability grade A or B.
➡️ 1 January 2040 - Higher recycled content thresholds. 70% transport reuse as an indicative goal.

Note that much of the detail still depends on delegated and implementing acts the Commission has not published yet. We will update you as they land.

A look behind the scenes: our pallet collar production runs on modern, automated assembly.

Pallet collars might look like a simple product, but producing them at scale — in standard and custom sizes, with consistent quality — takes real manufacturing capability. Automated assembly machines are what allow us to keep standard sizes in stock while still being able to take on special or non-standard dimensions without the long lead times that custom packaging usually involves.

It's also why local production matters more than it might seem. Being based close to the markets we serve means shorter transport distances, faster turnaround, and fewer of the delays that come with importing packaging from further away. Every collar produced here is heat-treated and ISPM-15 compliant, ready for both domestic use and cross-border shipment.

In aerospace manufacturing, packaging is not just a logistics decision — it is part of the production schedule.

Wings and cabin sections occupy massive floor space. Neither the aircraft manufacturer nor the packaging facility can hold them in storage. The box must arrive exactly when the component is ready — not before, not after.

To stay in sync with a strict Just-In-Time assembly schedule, every custom box blueprint was pre-engineered and approved in advance. ISPM 15 certified timber and hardware were always kept in active safety stock.

When the call-off came, the box was built, quality-checked, and delivered to the assembly line within hours.

In JIT aerospace logistics, the packaging supply chain must be as responsive as the production line itself. 🕐

Sometimes the most valuable thing a packaging supplier can do is tell a client what they actually need — not just quote what they asked for.

A Bahraini defence client was using heavy-duty wooden pallets. They were not sure it was the right approach for their loads and applications. And they were working with a real constraint: locally available timber quality in Bahrain is more limited than in many other markets.

Our approach: understand the product weights, dimensions and intended use first. Then advise.
The result was a solution — a combination of pallets and crates — matched to both the technical requirement and local procurement realities. And a client who came back.

It is, frankly, uncomfortable to say — but it has to be said:

The world is re-arming. And packaging is now mission-critical.

Global military spending hit a record US$2,887 billion in 2025. NATO's procurement agency NSPA more than doubled its contracts to €10.6 billion in a single year. Saudi Arabia budgeted US$78 billion for defence. All 32 NATO Allies now meet the 2% spending threshold.

More materiel on the move means more crates, pallets and boxes that have to perform — under extreme temperatures, rough handling, tight deadlines, and border crossings where a non-compliant package gets destroyed on arrival.

That is what MIL-SPEC packaging is about. Not a nice-to-have. A technical and legal requirement.
