We are the Center for Collaborative Research (CCR) for Scientific Modeling, Application, Research, and Training for City-centered Innovation And Technology (SMART CITY) led by University of Indonesia. We cooperate with various Higher Education Institutions in Indonesia and USA, public and private sectors and also NGOs in a Sustainable Higher Education Research Alliances (SHERA) program funded by U

nited States Agency for International Development (USAID), focusing on Urban Development and Planning. We encourage research groups, technical laboratories and individual researchers to use interdisciplinary approaches to their work, collaborate on a global scale, and create scientific and technological innovation to actualizing the strategies of smart city.

SMART CITY UI, a sub-awardee of the University of Notre Dame, has successfully conducted research on the Innovation Ecosystem Study and HEI Financial Sustainability Study in Indonesia for the past two years as part of the Indonesian HEIGHTS Study of the SHARE Project. The team finally disseminated their research findings and preliminary recommendations at the Comparative and International Education Society (CIES 2024) in Miami, US, on 13 March 2024, alongside the Philippines and Kenya, which are the country partners of the HEIGHTS Study.

During the presentation, the team discussed the barriers and enablers for fostering sustainable change through higher education-driven innovation. The team also presented a cross-national analysis of the financial sustainability of higher education institutions in LMICs.

The SMART CITY UI team's research findings and preliminary recommendations are expected to have a significant impact on the higher education sector in Indonesia and other LMICs, providing insights into how higher education institutions can drive innovation while ensuring financial sustainability.

Proses panjang penilaian kompetisi inovasi Pemerintah Daerah ini memasuki babak akhir dengan penyelenggaraan acara puncak “Penganugerahan Penghargaan Penerima Innovative Government Award 2023” yang diselenggarakan Selasa, 12 Desember 2023 di Jakarta. Sebagai institusi yang terlibat dalam tahap awal penilaian kompetisi IGA, Kementerian Dalam Negeri (Kemendagri) mengundang UKKPPM SMART CITY Universitas Indonesia yang dihadiri oleh Kepala UKKPPM SMART CITY UI, Nadya Kamila.

Our article "Urban Clusters and Land Price Variation in Jakarta, Indonesia" has been published in the Journal of Property Research (2023).

The economic vibrancy of Jakarta is heavily influenced by increased urban economic activities, leading to the formation of concentrated commercial areas called urban clusters. This has resulted in a rising demand for commercial properties and, consequently, an increased need for land. Traditional methods of assessing land value, primarily based on distance calculations, are questioned for accuracy in the city's spatial structure. This research proposes a new approach, considering spatial design and configuration, to analyze location attributes.

Our article "Housing Preference Shifting During Covid-19 Pandemic in Indonesia" has been published in the Journal of Urban Management, Volume 12, Issue 3, September 2023, page 268-283.

The COVID-19 pandemic has had a significant impact on the housing industry in Indonesia, as evidenced by a decline in the market for high-rise and dense multi-unit residential buildings. Instead, buyers have shown a preference for landed houses during the pandemic.

SMART CITY Universitas Indonesia saat ini sedang berada di tahap akhir proyek kolaborasi riset HEIGHTS (Higher Education Institutions Generating Holistic and Transformative Solutions) bersama University of Notre Dame, Amerika Serikat dibawah Pendanaan USAID.

Tim peneliti telah mendiseminasikan temuan penelitiannya sekaligus mem-validasi hasil penelitian bersama para stakeholder yang menjadi sampel. Acara ini dibagi menjadi dalam 2 sub-subjek riset yaitu ekosistem inovasi dan keberlanjutan keuangan yang dilaksanakan di Hotel Aloft TB Simatupang Jakarta Selatan pada tanggal 22-23 agustus 2023.
