Knowledge grows when shared. We had the pleasure of hosting the at the Asali Bali studio for an interactive bamboo workshop.

Driven by a shared curiosity for sustainable architecture, the participants dove deep into our engineering workflow—exploring everything from structural calculations and joinery details to hands-on model making. Cross-cultural exchanges like this inspire us to keep pushing the boundaries of what bamboo can do.

Thank you to everyone from for bringing such great energy and insightful questions!

Behind the scenes at Villa Purnama Uluwatu, where modern design meets natural dark bamboo.

As the bamboo contractor, our focus at Asali Bali is executing the architectural vision by Luasa with precise structural engineering. Using durable black bamboo poles, this phase establishes the main load-bearing arches and roof geometry that give the villa its distinct character.

There is a deep, grounding energy that happens when the dramatic tones of black bamboo meet the soft, organic texture of natural thatch.

At Asali Bali, we love exploring this rich contrast. The bold, dark framework provides a striking structural silhouette, while the layered thatch roof softens the lines, creating a warm, open-air sanctuary. It is a design combination that instantly evokes a sense of wonder and connection with nature the moment you step underneath it.

Ever wonder how giant bamboo structures stay so strong and stable? Meet the backbone of modern bamboo engineering: custom metal brackets.

From hidden internal connectors that maintain a clean look to heavy-duty base plates that anchor the building, these steel components allow us to push the limits of organic architecture. It’s the perfect marriage of nature’s flexibility and engineering’s precision.

Before our team breaks ground on-site, the vision takes shape on our design table. This small-scale bamboo model allows us to capture the rhythm of the organic curves and the intricate flow of the roofline. Looking closely at these delicate lines, you can already sense the warmth and deep connection with nature that will soon define the final dining experience.

A masterclass in sustainable collaboration. The new BiRD Lab is officially underway, showcasing how modern engineering can elevate organic materials.

As the Bamboo Engineers for this project, our role at Asali Bali is to ensure that the fluid, innovative designs by and MAIN Architect translate perfectly into structural reality—durable, resilient, and precise. With the expert hands of handling the bamboo construction on-site, this project is a true testament to collective craftsmanship.

Stay tuned as we push the boundaries of what bamboo can do.
