What would you do if a shallow steam blowout occurred at 2,000 ft?

A new discussion on My-Spread, shared by Tom Macrae, explores the challenges of drilling and producing from high-temperature thermal diatomite formations with temperatures reaching around 500°F.

The discussion raises important questions around:
• Shallow steam hazards
• Warning signs crews should monitor
• Geothermal-specific drilling practices
• Training recommendations and operational preparedness
• Handling shallow steam blowout scenarios

We encourage industry experts with geothermal or high-temperature drilling experience to join the conversation and share their valuable insights.

7 workshops.
7 countries.
One Relentless Pursuit of Perfection.

Q1 2026 has already taken the rp² team across multiple regions, bringing together operational teams, technical specialists, and decision-makers to align, challenge assumptions, reduce risk, and improve performance.

From focused planning sessions to collaborative workshop discussions, every engagement reinforced the value of getting the right people in the room early — creating clarity, strengthening ex*****on, and driving better operational outcomes.

Expertly facilitated by our core team of facilitators (Dave Taylor, John Sands, Duncan Mackay), these workshops continue to deliver practical, experience-led discussions that help teams prepare better, communicate more clearly, and execute with greater confidence.

At rp², we believe operational excellence is never accidental.
It’s built through preparation, collaboration, and the Relentless Pursuit of Perfection.

Why are crews still climbing pipe decks with tape measures in 2026?

A new post on My-Spread, shared by Dave Taylor, reopens the discussion around Ready-to-Run (“Rig Ready”) casing and tubing operations.

Despite advances in digitalisation and AI, many operations still measure tubulars, run drifts, and install centralisers at the wellsite — often on the critical path and in higher-risk working conditions.

The discussion explores whether more operations should move these activities to controlled base or pipe-yard environments before equipment reaches the rig.

We encourage industry professionals to join the poll and share their experiences, outcomes, and perspectives on adopting Rig Ready operations.

Do you have a ready-to-use evacuation model for your rig operations?

A new discussion on My-Spread highlights the growing need for T-time evacuation planning amid today’s shifting geo-political landscape.

Shared by Dave Taylor, the focus is on building—or sharing—practical evacuation spreadsheets that can support:
• Rapid down-manning scenarios
• Typhoon/hurricane evacuation planning
• Real-time decision-making under uncertainty

If your team has developed an evacuation Excel model—or adapted one for field use—your contribution could significantly help others strengthen their preparedness.

rp² recently delivered a one-day DWOP & two-day CWOP workshop in Aberdeen, Scotland, bringing together operator and contractor teams for focused collaboration on upcoming drilling and completion activities.

Facilitated by John Sands, the workshop provided a structured environment to align across disciplines, share lessons learned, and strengthen operational readiness. Through interactive discussions and collaborative working sessions, teams worked through key risks, interfaces, and ex*****on priorities to support safe and efficient offshore operations. The three-day event featured a strong emphasis on teambuilding with engaging ice-breakers and evening entertainment helping to introduce new players into the existing strong team culture without detracting from the real work of optimising the operational programmes.

Thank you to everyone who took part and contributed to the open, constructive discussions, a great example of teams working together with a strong ONE TEAM mindset.

rp2 recently delivered a 1.5-day hybrid Drill Well on Paper (DWOP) workshop for a Deepwater Exploration Well in Pointe-Noire, Republic of Congo, bringing together in-person and remote teams for focused technical collaboration.

Led by Dave Taylor, with remote facilitation support from Duncan Mackay, the workshop enabled cross-disciplinary alignment through structured discussions and interactive group work. The sessions included a detailed review of the drilling programme and equipment readiness, alongside identification of key operational risks and interface improvements to support safe and efficient ex*****on.

Thank you to everyone who joined and actively contributed. Your engagement and collaboration were essential to the success of the workshop.

The success of this hybrid DWOP demonstrates that the hybrid format remains relevant and effective in achieving the workshop’s primary objectives.

In addition to the door prizes of Kopi Luwak (civet-processed coffee), the random name draw from submitted feedback survey chose a charity that benefits vulnerable young women in Congo; rp2 happily made a 250 Euro donation to this good cause.
