On Tuesday 27 January 2026, Darragh O’Brien, Minister for Climate, Energy and the Environment and Minister for Transport, announced a major new package of SEAI supports aimed at making home energy upgrades more affordable, more accessible, and easier to deliver.
These measures will support warmer, healthier homes, lower energy bills, and help Ireland meet its Climate Action targets. The changes will be introduced in two phases:
Commencing 3 February 2026
✅Higher grants for Attic and Cavity Wall insulation
✅Increased Heat Pump grants - up to €12,500, including:
✅€4,000 Renewable Heat Bonus
✅€2,000 Central Heating Grant
✅Introduction of a High-Temperature Heat Pump Pilot under the National Home Energy Upgrade Scheme
Commencing 4 March 2026
✅New Windows & Doors grant under the Better Energy Homes scheme
✅New higher grants for homeowners on specified Social Protection payments
✅New Attic Insulation grants for First-Time Buyers
✅Second wall insulation grant now available for homes that previously received cavity or internal wall insulation
✅Removal of the minimum 100 kWh/m²/yr energy uplift requirement where a heat pump is installed
✅Removal of the requirement for a pre-works BER of B3 or worse under the National Home Energy Upgrade Scheme
These updates represent one of the most significant expansions of SEAI grant support to date and open the door for many more homeowners to upgrade their homes in a way that suits their budget and timeline.
