Stage 4/5 MEP design. City of London. Purpose-Built Student Accommodation at Holborn Viaduct. We’re on it and we’re proud to be doing it alongside McAleer & Rushe & an excellent team 👏

The scheme will provide 669 student bedrooms across 12 storeys, supported by a 2-storey basement and a strong focus on student wellbeing, interaction and shared amenity. Facilities include a cinema room, music rooms, gym, games area, café/bar and external roof terraces.

Our role extends beyond MEP design, with our teams also providing Sustainability & Energy Engineering, Construction Services and BREEAM Consultancy across the project.

A key feature progressing over the coming weeks is the installation of the rainwater harvesting and greywater distribution system serving water closets throughout the building. These systems play an important role in improving water efficiency and reducing operational demand across large-scale residential developments.

With MEP first fix now progressing through multiple levels, the project continues to move forward at pace, demonstrating strong collaboration between client, contractor and consultant teams in one of the UK’s most demanding construction environments.

Engineering Excellence Award – Q1 2026 🏆

A huge congratulations to Beatrice Wharton-Hood, our Q1 Engineering Excellence Award winner. Nominated by her colleagues, Beatrice has made an immediate impact since joining us from as a Mechanical Placement Student. From day one, she has brought energy, curiosity, and a genuine willingness to get stuck in — fully embodying our People Experience Promise pillar, Shoot for the Stars.

This recognition is a reflection of how she’s embraced the opportunity, contributed to the team, and set a strong standard early in her journey.

A brilliant start, and very well deserved 👏

Our team attended Procurex Ireland last week, a really valuable opportunity to hear directly from across the industry on where procurement is heading.
If you couldn’t make it, we’ve pulled together some of our key takeaways below 👇 From AI in procurement to ongoing delivery pressures, social value, and the growing importance of early engagement, there was a clear message: the landscape is evolving quickly.

At EDC, we’re actively listening, learning, and applying these insights to how we support our clients. Particularly in AI & digital adoption, strengthening early-stage collaboration, and delivering more certainty across projects.

A big thank you to the organisers and speakers for a well-run and insightful event.

An Insight into Leadership

Last year, we welcomed Peter Farrell as Associate Director to our Dublin office, bringing with him nearly three decades of experience across the construction industry.

At EDC, leadership is defined by action. It’s about guiding teams with clarity, challenging design thinking, and ensuring quality and coordination are delivered on the ground, not just in design.

Peter embodies this approach. A leader who understands the detail, values collaboration, and consistently drives standards across every stage of a project. We’re proud to have him as part of our Dublin team.

Two months in, and Beatrice Wharton-Hood is already making her mark.

Beatrice joined us from / as part of her Industrial Internship. Bringing with her a strong academic grounding and a genuine drive to put it to work.

Since then, she’s been doing exactly that. Real projects. Real engineers. Real experience. Her latest piece reflects on the journey so far, and it’s a brilliant read for anyone thinking about what a career in engineering actually looks like. Link in story 🔗

At EDC, this is what our People Experience Promise, Engineering Excellence, Together, is built on. Backing our people, at every stage of their career, to grow, contribute, and thrive 🚀

A weekend that genuinely captures what EDC is all about.

This year we brought over 70 people together from across Ireland, the UK, Turkey and beyond and headed west. We set sail for Inis Mór. 🌊

We kicked things off at the with a series of workshops led by Stephen Naughton. This was a chance to reflect honestly on where we are, share ideas openly, and challenge ourselves on what comes next. Progressiveness is one of our core values. This weekend was a real example of what that looks like in practice. Not standing still. Always looking forward.

From there the weekend took on a life of its own. Exploring one of Ireland’s most extraordinary islands, conversations that simply don’t happen in the day-to-day, and the kind of energy that reminds you why the people in a company are its greatest asset.

What stood out most was the shared ambition. Across every office. Every discipline. Every level of seniority. It is easy to talk about being people-centric. Weekends like this show what it actually means. We are building something here. This weekend was a reminder of who is building it.

A huge thank you to our organising committee for making it happen, and to the people of Inis Mór for the warmth of the welcome. 👏

Today is and we’re reflecting on this year’s theme, Give to Gain. 🌍

The theme highlights an important idea: real progress comes when we actively invest in people. When organisations, communities and individuals support the advancement, leadership and opportunities of women, the benefits are felt across society as a whole.

Across EDC, the women in our business play a vital role in shaping our culture, strengthening our teams and delivering engineering excellence for our clients. Their leadership, collaboration and expertise help drive better outcomes across every part of the company. 🤝 We’ve highlighted just a few here, but the contribution of women across EDC is felt throughout every part of the business.

Engineering has traditionally been a male-dominated profession. Today, women represent less than 15% of the engineering workforce in Ireland and the UK. At EDC, that figure stands at 26% and continues to grow as the profession evolves. 📈

To all the women across EDC, thank you. Your contribution strengthens our company every day. You can also read more reflections on this topic in a piece by our CEO, Richard O’Farrell - Link in story.

For many engineers in Ireland and the UK, Chartership is the destination. Not for the letters but for what they represent. Professional credibility. Technical confidence. Industry recognition.

At EDC, we don’t just encourage Chartership, we build the environment around it. Real responsibility on live projects. Access to experienced mentors. Exposure across disciplines. A culture where progression and pushing standards is expected.

If you’re serious about becoming Chartered and want to do it somewhere that genuinely backs your ambition, it’s worth a conversation.

To learn more about our Chartership pathway, feel free to book a call with our Talent Specialist, Val Small at [email protected].

Watching the Creamfields Development come to life has been incredibly rewarding. What was once a familiar landmark will transform into a vibrant urban quarter that will soon be 606 dwellings across 12 buildings, with green spaces, courtyards, local amenities and a new town square at its heart, all framed by a striking 15-storey residential tower.

Early works are well advanced on the Creamfields site with the official sod turning taking place earlier in January. Projects like this are about more than buildings. They’re about creating places where communities can grow, connect and thrive.

We’re proud to be playing our part, delivering full MEP design and construction support alongside our specialist Energy & Sustainability services including, OHA and BERs. And as a Cork-founded business, being involved in developments that shape the future of our own city makes it all the more special.
