A fair question folks - and the main reason is because the recent Irish Government tax reductions mainly targeted petrol and road diesel excise duties ๐โฝ
The Government temporarily reduced:
โ๏ธ Excise duty on petrol
โ๏ธ Excise duty on auto diesel
โ๏ธ Some reductions on green diesel / MGO
However, home heating oil (kerosene) did not receive the same level of direct tax reduction.
So while diesel prices at the pump benefited quite quickly from lower excise duty, home heating oil prices are still being driven largely by:
โข Global oil market prices
โข Wholesale kerosene costs
โข International supply pressures
Unfortunately, suppliers right across the country purchase at those wholesale rates, so the reductions havenโt filtered through to heating oil in the same way.
As always, if prices ease further globally, we hope to see that reflected in kerosene too and thankfully we seem to be moving into a period of warmer weather, which is at least helping reduce the need for many households
