Irish weather rarely waits for a convenient moment, and a rural home cannot put essentials on pause when the power goes out.

For Alan O'Reilly, backup is about practical needs. The well keeps the water moving, the heating protects the home, and Wi-Fi and lighting keep everyday life connected when a storm reaches Carlow.

The new system gives Alan a clear response: keep the batteries charged, use the forecast to prepare and switch the essential loads over if the grid goes down.

The result is greater resilience and more control—particularly valuable when Alan often sees the storm coming before the rest of us have found the raincoat.

We can talk about plans, products and workmanship all day. The clearest measure of an installation is how the homeowner feels when the work is done.

Alan needed a major upgrade that could meet the home's changing energy demands without turning installation day into unnecessary disruption.

The team arrived with a clear plan, brought the system together efficiently and left Alan with an installation that works well and looks considered in the space.

The homeowner gets the final word—which is only fair, given it is his wall. Alan was delighted with the job, impressed by how quickly it came together and looking forward to showing how the new system helps him move towards an even greener home.

A timelapse can make careful work look suspiciously easy. What it cannot compress is the planning behind every movement.

This was a major step up from Alan's previous system, with new generation, a GoodWe inverter, three battery modules and backup capability to bring together. The challenge was not simply getting equipment onto the wall; every connection and check had to follow the approved sequence so the whole upgrade would operate as one system.

At Alan O'Reilly's home, the team worked through that sequence step by step: setting out, mounting, connecting and checking the GoodWe inverter and three battery modules in their final positions.

The result is the transformation you see here, delivered by the people behind the plan and ready for Alan to put through its paces in real Irish conditions.

🏫 Solar for schools: Tinryland National School

School buildings often have useful roof space and strong daytime electricity demand. At Tinryland National School, that roof is now generating clean electricity on site.

The 6.16 kWp system was integrated with the existing installation and includes a live display, giving pupils a clear view of renewable energy working in real time.

It is a practical upgrade with an educational benefit built in.

The best installations have a habit of looking simple when they are finished. Getting a major upgrade to look that way is the complicated part.

The new system brings additional solar generation, significantly more battery storage and backup capability into Alan's home. Delivering it involves dozens of connected decisions: what the property needs, where the equipment will sit, how the team will access the work areas and the order in which everything must happen.

At Alan O'Reilly's home, the survey and measurements shaped the plan before installation day. Materials, access and responsibilities were then coordinated so each stage could move forward cleanly and safely.

The result is deliberately understated: tidy work, consistent lines and an upgrade that sits properly on Alan's home. The details may disappear into the finish, but their value remains.

A major solar upgrade may be judged by the finished array, but the standard of the job is set before the first panel ever reaches the roof.

Roof work brings an obvious challenge: people, equipment and materials all need to move safely at height, without allowing speed to get ahead of care. The view improves with height; the margin for improvisation does not.

At Alan O'Reilly's home, that meant controlled access, tied-in ladders, the right protective equipment and a team working to a clear sequence. Each panel was handled carefully, positioned accurately and aligned with the rest of the array.

The result is more than a clean line across the roof. It is an installation built with the care required to perform outdoors for years.

After years of working with Alan O'Reilly, there was no need for a grand introduction on install morning, just a clear plan, a tidy site and the kettle kept within reasonable reach.

Install day is where planning becomes coordination.

Equipment, access, scaffold and team responsibilities all need to line up before work progresses. At Alan O'Reilly's home, the focus was a controlled start and a tidy site, with the installation team working from the agreed plan.

The finished system matters, but so does the standard of work used to get there.
