A great example of a business making the most of its daytime electricity usage.

Midland Hardware originally installed a 37 kW solar PV system, and after seeing the benefits, they have now increased their total solar capacity to 67 kW.

For businesses like hardware stores and retail premises, solar is particularly effective because the majority of electricity is being used during the day — exactly when the solar system is generating.

Lighting, tills, offices, warehouse operations and other electrical equipment can all make use of the solar energy as it is produced, helping to reduce the amount of electricity purchased from the grid.

By expanding from 37 kW to 67 kW, Midland Hardware can now generate even more of its own electricity on site and make better use of the available roof space.

It’s always great to see a client experience the benefits of solar first-hand — and then decide to invest even further.

Following the success of their existing 160 kW solar PV system, Salthill Hotel has now increased its solar capacity with the addition of a further 108 kW system.

For hotels, solar can be one of the most effective ways to reduce energy costs. With significant electricity demand throughout the day from kitchens, laundry, heating and cooling systems, leisure facilities, lighting and general hotel operations, a large proportion of the electricity generated by solar can be used directly on site.

That means less reliance on grid electricity, greater protection against future energy price increases and a meaningful reduction in the hotel’s carbon footprint.

Salthill Hotel’s decision to expand its system is a great example of what happens when a business can see the value of its solar investment in real operating conditions.
