At the front, we’re showing the EcoPlus pre-built system — designed to take the guesswork out of heat pump installation and plantroom layout, and to dramatically cut installation time.

Alongside that, we’ve added a working NRG Zone setup with a range of circuit options:
• Controlled temperature circuits when you need precision
• Simple mixing for underfloor without overcomplicating it
• Full temperature circuits for radiators or hot water

Most Heat Pump Complaints Start With the Heating System, Not the Heat Pump

Across the UK, Ireland and Germany, many complaints about heat pump installations follow the same pattern.

High running costs.
Poor comfort.
Unstable heating behaviour.

The appliance is usually blamed.
The cost of electricity is often blamed.
But in many cases, the real issue lies somewhere else.

Single-circulator heating systems that lack a properly designed hydraulic structure.

In these systems, multiple circuits share the same pump and the same return path. As the building load changes and flows shift throughout the system, the circuits influence one another.

The result is that return temperatures from different circuits blend before reaching the heat pump.

The appliance then reacts to an average signal, rather than the true condition of the building loads it is supposed to serve.

The simple illustration below shows the principle.

If one foot is in water at 43 °C and the other at 40 °C, the average temperature might be 41.5 °C.

But that number tells you very little about what either foot is actually experiencing.

Hydronic heating systems behave similarly when return temperatures from different circuits are blended.
When that happens, the heat pump controller is operating on distorted information, which can lead to unstable operation, higher running costs, and poor comfort.

Many of the complaints now emerging about heat pumps are not caused by inefficient appliances.

They are the result of system structures that prevent the appliance from observing the building's true behaviour.

Understanding the hydraulic structure of the system is therefore just as important as selecting the appliance itself.

Heat pumps are highly optimised machines. Their performance depends on the hydraulic conditions they experience in real installations.

When multiple emitter circuits share a single pressure source, flow distribution follows resistance rather than demand. Return temperatures blend before reaching the unit.

The result is a shifting hydraulic signal.

This short presentation looks at how structural separation restores stability — not by adjusting settings, but by correcting the hydraulic structure itself.

We’re all set up and ready for Solar + Heat tomorrow at Naas Racecourse.

Our technical team will be on the stand all day to talk heating system design, installation challenges, and how to make systems behave properly—not just look good on paper.

On display, we’ve got an NRG Zone 5 showing three different circuit approaches side by side:
• Motorised temperature control
• Mixing valve control
• Full temperature circuit

…𝗯𝗲𝗰𝗮𝘂𝘀𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗯𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗹𝘆.

We “missed” our energy savings target on a project, and it turned out to be one of the best outcomes we’ve seen.

A bar/restaurant we designed the upgrade for had:

• Three boilers serving different areas
• Poor heat distribution
• No proper temperature control
• TRVs and boiler stats doing the “control”
• Systems running continuously

We restructured the heating using an NRG Zone manifold, proper hydraulic separation, weather compensation, and accurate room-temperature control. We also recovered waste heat from fridges and beer chillers to preheat DHW.

Technically, we were targeting around 35% fuel savings.

Comfort improved so much that the indoor temperature stabilised around 21°C - about 2°C warmer than in the previously cold areas.

Previously, the owners struggled to achieve uniform heating because the system’s circuits interfered with one another and were almost impossible to balance. Once restructured, each circuit had independent circulation and controlled flow rates at the correct ΔT, so heat delivery became stable instead of competing.

And then something unexpected happened.

The place got busier.

Customers stayed longer. Repeat visits increased.

When I checked the fuel data, savings were closer to 20%, and I thought we had underperformed.

The owner’s response was simple:

“Look around, we’ve never been this busy.”

More people meant:

• More DHW use
• More door opening
• Higher ventilation losses
• Longer operating hours

The system was more efficient.

The building was just being used more.

So was it an energy-saving win? Yes.

But more importantly, it was a building performance and business win.

Sometimes the real measure isn’t just fuel reduction - it’s whether the system supports how the building is actually used.
