Helixworks Technologies

Helixworks Technologies We put the data in DNA Our job is to enable researchers and engineers to tinker with DNA.

We spend our time designing and engineering a novel DNA synthesis platform that is accessible to all levels of research labs and independent researchers. Our approach is to drive down the costs and increase speed of turnaround times, so that curious researchers and engineers need not cut back on experimenting. We aspire to enable them make breakthroughs that help all of humanity to lead a rich and

fulfilling life, such as, safe guard the world's food supply, enable sustainable production of chemicals, develop better medicine and therapy.

DNA doesn’t replace SSDs or RAM.
But for archiving? It might just be unbeatable.

Prof. Thomas Heinis explains why DNA is perfectly suited for long-term, low-access storage, and how it could redefine digital preservation.

📼 Tape was good. DNA is better.

What if your next database wasn’t on silicon...but in DNA?

In EP03 of Dive into Deeptech | MoSS Edition, Prof. Thomas Heinis (Imperial College Computing) walks us through their work, where relational databases meet molecular storage systems.

From using PostgreSQL to structure and encode data for DNA storage, to querying structured data with PCR, his team is redefining what it means to store and compute with molecules.

DNA doesn’t just store data. It stores trust.

Prof. Zohar Yakhini explains why DNA is more than just an archival medium. From labelling products with embedded manuals to authenticating supply chains, the applications go far beyond data archival.

🎙️ In EP02 of Dive into Deeptech | MoSS Edition, we sit down with two of the sharpest minds in DNA data storage:

🔹 Prof. Zohar Yakhini (Reichman University & Technion - Israel Institute of Technology)
🔹 Prof. Eitan Yaakobi (DNA Storage Lab @ Technion)

In this episode, we talk about:
- What the future of DNA-based storage systems might look like
- Why composite DNA letters could massively boost information density
- The challenges: insertions, deletions, and the codes that can’t (yet) fix them
- What it takes to make DNA readable decades or centuries from now
- Building collaborative tools to analyse synthesis error profiles
- How academia and industry must work together before the tech matures. and more!

If you’re building or thinking in this space, this one’s dense, brilliant packed with full of insight.

🎥 Hollywood is losing films. Not because they’re forgotten, but because the storage media can’t keep up.

In this clip from Dive into Deeptech | MoSS Edition, Dr. Raja Appuswamy explains how even blockbuster archives are vulnerable to tape decay and obsolescence, and why DNA might be the fix.
