WHEN TRADITION MEETS AMBITION, GREAT THINGS ARE RAISED! 🇮🇪

Another fantastic project completed by POLES APART, this time in the heart of County Laois, at the newly developed grounds of C**t-Shanahoe GAA Club in Shanahoe.

We were delighted to be entrusted with the:

All three flagpoles feature our premium hinged-base system, allowing them to be safely lowered to ground level for flag changes, inspections and maintenance.

No ladders, no unnecessary working at height — just smart, practical engineering designed with safety in mind.

💚🤍💛 A PROUD HISTORY — TWO CLUBS BECOME ONE!

The story of C**t-Shanahoe GAA is one of sporting tradition, community spirit and a shared determination to secure the future of hurling in this proud corner of County Laois.

🔵🟡 ST FINTAN’S, C**T GAA — ESTABLISHED 1953

Founded in 1953, St Fintan’s, C**t GAA developed a proud hurling tradition in the parish of Raheen.

Over the decades, the club enjoyed considerable success, winning the Laois Intermediate Hurling Championship in 1965, 1971, 1979 and 2008.

The club also celebrated Junior Hurling Championship victories in 1959 and 1996, building a reputation for determination, commitment and community involvement.

🔴⚫ SHANAHOE GAA — A PROUD HURLING HERITAGE

Shanahoe’s hurling history stretches back generations.

An earlier Shanahoe club captured the Laois Junior Hurling Championship in 1948, followed by the Intermediate Championship in 1951.

The modern Shanahoe GAA Club was established in 1980, proudly representing its community in the traditional red and black.

For generations, both C**t and Shanahoe played an important role in keeping Gaelic games alive and thriving throughout the parish.

🤝 2020 — THE BEGINNING OF A NEW ERA!

In January 2020, following discussions and overwhelming support from members of both clubs, St Fintan’s, C**t and Shanahoe officially joined forces to establish C**T-SHANAHOE GAA CLUB.

Two proud sporting traditions became one united force.

The amalgamation brought together players, volunteers, supporters and families, creating stronger foundations for the development of hurling at every level.

And it wasn’t long before that ambition delivered results!

🏆 2023 — CHAMPIONS!

Just three years after joining forces, C**t-Shanahoe celebrated a magnificent achievement by winning the 2023 Laois Intermediate Hurling Championship, defeating Trumera in a memorable final replay.

A historic first championship title for the newly amalgamated club and a wonderful reward for everyone who believed in bringing the two communities together.

🌳🚶 NEW GROUNDS — NEW WALKWAY — NEW BEGINNINGS!

Today, the newly developed GAA grounds at Shanahoe, complete with a surrounding walkway, represent much more than a sporting facility.

They are a place where young players can develop their skills, families can gather, supporters can celebrate and the wider community can enjoy the benefits of this wonderful local amenity.

And now, standing proudly at these impressive new facilities, are three premium Poles Apart fibreglass flagpoles, ready to display the colours with pride for many years to come.

The team at Poles Apart were delighted to visit the historic O’Neill’s Bar & Steakhouse, right in the heart of Maynooth, Co. Kildare, for another fantastic flagpole installation!

And this time, we’re raising a glass to two of the world’s most recognisable b**r brands! 🍻

🔧 THE PROJECT

We were delighted to complete the:

✅ Supply, delivery and installation of 2 custom-made 45-degree advertising flags, specially designed to showcase two iconic brands:

The result? Two striking flags proudly displayed outside this much-loved Maynooth establishment, adding colour, character and a touch of class to its Main Street frontage.

🏛️ A LITTLE HISTORY ABOUT O’NEILL’S – SERVING MAYNOOTH SINCE 1912!

O’Neill’s has a remarkable family history stretching back more than 110 years!

The story began in 1912, when the O’Neill family opened their first butcher’s shop on Mill Street in Maynooth.

In 1958, the family moved their traditional butchery business to Main Street, where Dermot O’Neill continued the family tradition during the early 1970s.

Over the years, the business evolved from a traditional butcher’s shop into the popular family-run pub and steakhouse we know today.

And here’s a lovely little piece of history! ❤️

The original butcher’s shopfront has been preserved and is now proudly displayed as a feature in the pub’s b**r garden!

Today, O’Neill’s continues its long-standing tradition of quality, hospitality and locally sourced food, welcoming locals and visitors alike for great food, live music and, of course, a perfectly poured pint! 🍺

Another proud installation completed by Poles Apart, this time at the wonderful Ballymakenny College in Drogheda, Co. Louth!

We were delighted to be entrusted with the supply, delivery and installation of a 7-metre premium hinged-base fibreglass flagpole, providing a striking addition to the college grounds.

The new flagpole is a wonderful addition to the college, providing a prominent place to display a flag with pride while enhancing the appearance of the school grounds.

🏛️ A COLLEGE WITH A SPECIAL PLACE IN IRISH EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

Ballymakenny College may be relatively young compared with some of Ireland’s long-established schools, but its history is particularly significant.

Established in August 2014, Ballymakenny College made history as Ireland’s first Educate Together second-level school to open its doors.

The college was established under the joint patronage of Louth and Meath Education and Training Board (LMETB) and Educate Together, introducing an innovative model of community education.

When the college first opened, it welcomed approximately 70 students and eight teachers, initially operating from temporary accommodation at Aston Village Educate Together National School.

From those modest beginnings, Ballymakenny College embarked on an exciting journey of growth and development.

The vision was to establish a modern, inclusive and forward-thinking secondary school that would provide young people from Drogheda and the surrounding communities with an outstanding educational experience.

What makes Ballymakenny College particularly special is its commitment to an educational philosophy based on:

Some projects are about much more than installing flagpoles — they’re about becoming a small part of something truly special.

At Poles Apart, we were absolutely delighted to be entrusted with the supply, delivery and installation of three premium hinged-base fibreglass flagpoles at the national headquarters of the Irish Vintage Engine & Tractor Association in the beautiful historic village of Donaghmore, Co. Laois.

And what an extraordinary location this is! 👏

🚩 THE INSTALLATION

Our latest project consisted of:

✅ 2 × 6-metre premium hinged-base fibreglass flagpoles.

The three flagpoles make a wonderful addition to this historic setting, complementing the magnificent old stone buildings and providing a proud display at the association’s national headquarters.

📸 BEFORE & AFTER – WHAT A TRANSFORMATION!

We’ve included some fantastic before-and-after photographs showing the difference our new flagpoles have made to the surroundings.

It’s always rewarding to see how a carefully positioned set of premium flagpoles can enhance the appearance and character of a property, particularly one with such historical significance.

🏛️ A PROUD HISTORY DATING BACK TO 1979

The Irish Vintage Engine & Tractor Association (I.V.E.T.A.) was established in Nenagh, Co. Tipperary, in 1979 by a small group of dedicated enthusiasts determined to preserve Ireland’s agricultural, mechanical and motoring heritage.

What began as a shared passion for vintage tractors, engines and machinery has grown into one of Ireland’s most important heritage organisations, bringing together thousands of enthusiasts from every county in Ireland and beyond.

For more than four decades, I.V.E.T.A. has played an invaluable role in preserving the machinery, engineering skills and agricultural traditions that helped shape modern Ireland.

From vintage tractor rallies and machinery exhibitions to restoration projects and educational events, the association continues to ensure that our mechanical and agricultural history is never forgotten.

🏚️➡️🏛️ BREATHING NEW LIFE INTO DONAGHMORE’S HISTORIC STONE BUILDINGS

But perhaps the most impressive part of our visit was witnessing the extraordinary restoration work being undertaken at the association’s headquarters.

Located beside the River Erkina, the historic Donaghmore Mill and Swallows Quarter complex is a remarkable collection of traditional Irish stone buildings with a fascinating industrial past.

The mill complex dates back to the 19th century, when it played an important role in the local economy through grain milling, malting and agricultural processing.

Over the years, changing industries and declining commercial activity left many of these beautiful buildings neglected and, in some cases, facing an uncertain future.

Thankfully, a dedicated group of vintage enthusiasts recognised their historical importance and set about saving them.

Through years of determination, voluntary effort, fundraising and skilled restoration, the association and local supporters have been painstakingly bringing these magnificent buildings back to life.

🔨 AN EXTRAORDINARY LABOUR OF LOVE

The restoration work includes the careful preservation and refurbishment of traditional stone buildings, historic mill structures, roofs and surrounding grounds.

What makes this undertaking particularly special is the enormous amount of dedication, craftsmanship and voluntary work involved.

These aren’t simply old buildings being repaired.

They’re pieces of Ireland’s industrial and agricultural history being rescued for future generations.

Today, the complex provides a permanent home for I.V.E.T.A., hosting meetings, exhibitions, vintage events and gatherings of enthusiasts from across the country.

And the ambitions don’t end there!

The association is continuing its restoration programme, with a long-term vision of developing a heritage museum where visitors can experience the remarkable machinery, craftsmanship and rural traditions of generations past.

It’s an absolutely inspiring project and a wonderful example of what can be achieved when a community comes together with a shared purpose.

🇮🇪 PRESERVING OUR HERITAGE FOR FUTURE GENERATIONS

At Poles Apart, we have enormous admiration for organisations like I.V.E.T.A.

Ireland’s agricultural and industrial heritage is something worth protecting, and the commitment shown by the volunteers and members involved in this project deserves tremendous recognition.

Their work ensures that future generations will have the opportunity to appreciate the machines, buildings and engineering achievements that helped build our country.

🏆 A CLUB STEEPED IN HISTORY

Glencar Manorhamilton GAA Club has been at the heart of sporting and community life in North Leitrim for generations.

Established in December 1968, the club has grown into one of County Leitrim’s most successful and respected GAA organisations.

The club celebrated its first Leitrim Senior Football Championship victory in 1977, followed by further triumphs in 1999 and an extraordinary period of dominance when they claimed four consecutive senior county titles between 2008 and 2011.

Another senior championship victory followed in 2019, bringing their tally to an impressive seven titles.

The club’s achievements extend far beyond men’s football, with a thriving ladies’ football section, hurling, underage development and a proud tradition of nurturing young sporting talent.

In 2019, the club celebrated its Golden Jubilee, marking 50 years of sporting achievement, community spirit and generations of dedicated volunteers.

Its magnificent grounds at Boggaun, Manorhamilton, stand as a testament to the hard work, ambition and commitment of everyone associated with the club.

💚💛 MORE THAN JUST A GAA CLUB

Across Ireland, GAA clubs are the beating hearts of their communities.

They bring generations together, create lifelong friendships and instil a sense of pride and belonging that extends far beyond the playing field.

Glencar Manorhamilton is a shining example of that tradition.

🇮🇪 RESTORED, REFURBISHED & READY TO MAKE AN IMPRESSION!

A fantastic before-and-after transformation completed by Poles Apart at SDG / Brooks Builders Providers on the Naas Road in Bluebell, Dublin.

For this project, we reinstated a number of the existing 8-metre flagpoles and carried out a complete refurbishment, bringing the entire installation back to a smart, professional standard.

Our works included:
✅ Reinstatement of the existing 8-metre flagpoles�✅ Complete refurbishment of the flagpole systems�✅ New rotating banner arms�✅ New sockets�✅ New banner slings�✅ New banner weights�✅ Supply and installation of brand-new custom-made, double-sided SDG banners�✅ Final adjustment, inspection and testing

The new rotating banner-arm systems allow the SDG banners to remain properly displayed and highly visible, creating a much stronger branded presence along the busy Naas Road.

📸 And this is definitely one for the before-and-after photographs!

The difference between how the installation looked when we arrived and how it looked when we finished really demonstrates what can be achieved by properly refurbishing and upgrading existing flagpoles rather than simply replacing them.

SDG was founded in 1990 by Seamus Duffy and has grown over more than 35 years into a specialist supplier of products and technical solutions to the construction industry.

Working with contractors, manufacturers, engineers and designers, SDG supplies thousands of specialist products used throughout the construction process, including construction accessories, formwork solutions, waterproofing systems, precast accessories and other specialist technical products.

The business has been involved in projects throughout Ireland and the UK and has built its reputation around technical knowledge, problem solving and supplying practical solutions to the construction industry.
In 2026, SDG opened its new Dublin depot in Bluebell, further strengthening its presence in the Republic of Ireland and providing locally stocked construction products and technical support to contractors throughout Dublin and the surrounding counties.

It was a pleasure for Poles Apart to help put the finishing touches to their Bluebell operation and give these existing flagpoles a completely new lease of life.

Another premium installation completed by Poles Apart, this time for Jones International Transport at their Balbriggan facility.

We supplied and installed:

The finished three-pole display gives the premises a strong, professional entrance, with the Irish Tricolour taking pride of place in the centre and the two custom Jones International flags completing the display on either side.

And there’s a great Irish business story behind the name.

Jones International Transport was established in 1995 by Nicholas Jones Sr. and remains a family-run business today, with the second generation continuing to drive the company forward.

From its North Dublin roots, Jones International has developed into a specialist provider of temperature-controlled transport and logistics services, connecting Ireland with the UK and mainland Europe.

The company has built a particularly strong reputation within the pharmaceutical, life sciences and high-value transport sectors, where reliability, security and precise temperature control are essential.

Today, with continued investment in its fleet, technology and its expanding presence in Balbriggan, Jones International Transport is a great example of an Irish family business growing and competing successfully on an international stage. 🚛🇮🇪🌍
