Local sport has a special way of bringing people together.🤝
That combination of teamwork, commitment and community spirit is something we always value. ⚽

Galco was proud to support the 2026 Robbie Keane Academy Cup at Crumlin United FC - an Under 12 international football tournament that welcomed teams from clubs including Wolves, AC Milan, Celtic, Manchester United, Shamrock Rovers, Arsenal, Burnley and Crumlin United.

A serious line-up.

But the real story was bigger than the badges.

It was the parents on the sideline.
The coaches giving their time.
The volunteers doing the unseen work.
The sponsors helping make it possible.
And the young players enjoying football the way it should be enjoyed.

With energy.
With focus.
With a bit of noise from the sidelines.
And probably with a few nervous adults pretending they were “just watching calmly”. 😅

Events like this matter.

Not only because they give young players a chance to test themselves against strong opposition, but because they build confidence, friendships and memories that stay long after the final whistle.

At Galco, supporting local communities has always been part of how we see our role as a business.

Industry matters. Infrastructure matters. Long-term partnerships matter.

But so do the clubs, volunteers and local initiatives that give young people opportunities to grow.

A big well done to Crumlin United FC, all organisers, coaches, families, sponsors and every player who took part.

Galco was delighted to support the tournament.

The future of football looked bright in Crumlin. ⚽👏

Climate Action sounds simple in presentations.

Delivering it through real infrastructure projects?

That’s where the real challenge begins.

At the National Infrastructure Summit, Ed Byrne, Galco’s Managing Director, joined a panel discussion on aligning infrastructure projects with climate goals - while keeping policy grounded in operational reality.

The panel also featured:

Laura Brien - Chief Executive, Maritime Area Regulatory Authority (MARA)

Dr. Paul Davis (SFHEA) - Lecturer in Strategic Procurement and Supply Management, Dublin City University

Prof. Mary Bourke - Earth and Planetary Geomorphologist, Trinity College Dublin

One message came through loud and clear:

the transition to low-carbon infrastructure must be practical, scalable, and developed together with industry.

💬 - Today’s conversation reinforced that achieving climate-aligned infrastructure projects starts with early and meaningful engagement throughout the supply chain - says Ed Byrne.

The discussion focused on:

✔ Clearer guidance on Green Public Procurement

✔ Recognising durability as a core principle of circularity

✔ The importance of early stakeholder engagement

✔ The need for realistic timelines around new EU regulations

At Galco, sustainability is not just about targets on paper.

It’s about creating systems, products, and infrastructure that are built to last.

Durability is not separate from sustainability when it comes to infrastructure - it is central to it!

Not every project we support is made of steel.

Some are built on community.

St Michael's AC Running Club Portarlington hosted the annual Good Friday Forest Run in Emo a fantastic event that brought people together for a great cause.

We’re proud to support this initiative alongside Coughlan Engineering, with JJ Stapleton leading the effort on the ground 👏

It’s more than just a run.

It’s local energy.

Community spirit.

People showing up for something that matters.

At Galco, we believe strong infrastructure is important.

But strong communities?

Even more so.

👏 Fair play to everyone involved - organisers, runners and supporters.

🚨 Big news from Galco… and this time, it’s not just for engineers 👀

That feeling when your industry gets… a Lego set?

After over a year of planning, working closely with technicians, refining every tiny detail (yes, even the zinc bath 👷‍♂️), and - most importantly - consulting with our youngest future engineers…

We’re proud to introduce a brand-new, limited edition:

🧱 „Hot Dip Galvanizing Factory” by Galco

Built with precision.
Inspired by real processes.
Approved by kids (the toughest audience of all 😉).

This is our way of showing that even heavy industry can spark curiosity, creativity… and maybe even a future career path.

👉 You’ll be able to see the set for the first time during our Galvanizing Open Day on September 16th, 2026, across all our plants in Dublin, Cork, Waterford, Tynagh and Draperstown.

We genuinely hope you’ll love this one as much as we do.

And who knows… maybe this is where the next generation of engineers gets inspired?

So… what do you think of the set? Would you build it? 👇

🚨🚨🚨

PS. The toy Hot Dip Galvanizing Factory was, of course… our little April Fool’s Day update 😉

But the Galvanizing Open Day on September 16th is 100% real and you’re more than welcome to join us!

Infrastructure is designed for decades.

But how often do we actually see what that means in practice?

Last week, we had the pleasure of welcoming Iarnród Éireann Irish Rail to our Dublin galvanizing plant and paint shop.

A chance to go beyond presentations… and step into the process.

From hot dip galvanizing in action to real-life examples of steel supplied to the DART network over 40 years ago - still performing with minimal coating degradation.

We also discussed circular design, embodied carbon, and how long asset life plays a key role in reducing environmental impact across infrastructure projects.

Great conversations.

Real insights.

Shared direction.

Thanks to Irish Rail Emer Bambrick, Conor Gorman, Tony Corrie and Pat Enright - Irish Steel for the visit.

Early engagement makes a real difference.

Working with Galco at the planning stage allows for better project decisions, smarter material selection and more predictable long-term performance.

Seventy trees planted. 🌱

Last week, just a few minutes from our Waterford galvanizing plant, students from Our Lady of Mercy Secondary School, Waterford teamed up with volunteers from Waterford Trees For Life to plant a small „Pocket Forest.”

Together they planted 70 native Irish trees and shrubs - Hazel, Bird Cherry, Hawthorn, Guelder-Rose, Elder and Dog Rose - using the Miyawaki method, where trees are planted close together to grow into a dense, biodiverse mini-forest over time.

Right now it may look like a few young saplings.
Give it a few years, and this patch of land will look completely different.

At Galco, we were delighted to support the initiative. When something positive is happening just around the corner, getting involved simply makes sense.

🗯️ - For us, this is about understanding the importance of our local communities and engaging with them on shared goals - says Cheryl Cusack, Business Manager at Galco Waterford. - It’s great to see schools, volunteers and local businesses working together to create something positive.

Fair play to everyone involved, especially the students who rolled up their sleeves and planted the first trees. 🌳
