We recently welcomed Deputy Aisling Dempsey and Councillor Mike Bray for a visit to our operations. This was an opportunity for Michelle Bennett, General Manager, and Paschal Walsh, Sustainability Manager, to discuss our operations, our role in the local community and regional economy, and the future of Boliden Tara Mines, including the potential development of Tara Deep.

The discussion also highlighted the wider importance of zinc, a metal that plays a critical role in supporting the transition to renewable energy systems and a more sustainable future.

They also travelled underground to see first-hand the scale of our operations and the work our teams do every day.

Great to continue engaging with our local representatives and sharing more about Boliden Tara Mines, our people and our future.

Sun protection with zinc? Yes. In the form of zinc oxide, it helps protect your skin from harmful UV rays and is a common ingredient in sunscreen.

Zinc is also used in many everyday products, from skincare and medicines to vehicles and batteries.

Across Boliden, we produce zinc from our own mines, including Garpenberg, Somincor, and Tara, while also recovering zinc from recycled materials in our smelters, contributing to lower climate impact.

Last week we were delighted to welcome Minister Darragh O’Brien (Minister for Climate, Energy and the Environment and Minister for Transport), Minister Helen McEntee (Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade and Minister for Defence), and local Senator Linda Nelson Murray for an official visit to the mine.

During the visit our General Manager (Michelle Bennett) along with President of Boliden Mines (Stefan Romedahl) and our sustainability Manager (Paschal Walsh) provided a comprehensive update on the ongoing operational ramp‑up. Discussions placed particular emphasis on the long‑term future of the mine and the strategic importance of the Tara Deep opportunity.

We explored the critical role of zinc in supporting the transition to renewable energy systems.

We extend our sincere thanks to the Ministers and Senator for taking the time to visit, engage with staff, and gain deeper insight into the operation and its strategic direction for the future.

Applicants must be 18 years of age by October 2026 and hold O5 grades in at least five subjects in the Leaving Certificate (or equivalent).
