!!!! Understanding ICF !!!!
Daly’s Construction ICF & Building Contractors is a trading name of PD Civils Ltd specializing in ICF (Insulated Concrete Formwork). ICF is another build method that can be used instead of blockwork, timber frame & steel frame. It is rapidly becoming the favored build method because of its proven results. So how does it work?
Simply the ICF blocks are installed on site one by one. They have an outer and inner layer of EPS insulation that are held together with a plastic web. (See picture below) When installing the ICF blocks reinforcing rebar is also installed to strengthen the final structure. When ready concrete is then poured into the form and the walls giving a final check and let set.
They are mainly only used for the exterior walls only as this is known as the building envelope. This is the wall structure that separates the outside from the inside on layman terms. So why is the ICF build method becoming so popular? Simply 1. Fast to install a standard 2500sqft house can have the ICF installed from Ground floor to First floor in approx 3 days.
2. They result in low energy homes.
