Dugon Venom Systems Lab

Dugon Venom Systems Lab We study the ontogeny, ecology, phylogeny and toxicity of venomous invertebrates, with a focus on British and Irish fauna. Welcome to the Dugon Lab!

This page is a social extension of the Venom Systems & Proteomics Lab led by Dr Michel Dugon at the National University of Ireland, Galway (NUIG). Dr Dugon has studied the evolution and the development of venom systems, predation strategies and prey detection in a variety of organisms. The lab’s current focus is on the ontogeny, ecology, phylogeny and toxicity of Ireland's venomous invertebrate fa

una. We also screen venoms for pharmacologically active compounds and assess their potential as next generation therapeutics. The lab currently houses a large collection of venomous animals which require constant interaction from feeding to carrying out venom extractions. The team also lead expeditions in the wild to collect new specimens both home and abroad. This page is intended to give you a unique insight to our daily work and communicate our scientific contributions along the way. Keep an eye out for our regular uploaded pics, videos and various updates on our research!
