H&MV Engineering is a trusted name in the electric power transmission industry. Established in 1997

We provide comprehensive specialist services to industry and construction for Design, Installation, Commissioning and Maintenance of transmission and distribution networks. Our engineering staff is highly experienced and receive regular specialist training. The company management is committed to providing a safe and healthy workplace that will protect the wellbeing of employees and clients alike.

Over the last number of years H&MV have become vastly experienced in the design and build of 110kV, 38kV and 20kV substations. We have a wide range of expertise in site electrical infrastructure and Sub-Station connection in renewables, data centres, manufacturing and pharmaceuticals throughout Ireland and the UK. With our understanding of Grid codes and HV interface requirements we are able to guide our clients through the grid connection process. H&MV will procure HV equipment and cable from approved suppliers to the specification required by Eirgrid and ESB. With our highly dedicated and trained engineers we design, install and commission substations to required grid standards. Thumper

Great to be in Frankfurt yesterday for the UW04 Fechenheim groundbreaking ceremony with Digital Realty—marking the start of another key phase in what is becoming a next-generation data centre campus.

Set within the historic Neckermann building—originally developed in the 1960s as a postal and logistics hub—the site is now being transformed into a critical piece of digital infrastructure, supporting the future of data centres and next-generation connectivity in Frankfurt.

This development reflects Digital Realty’s vision for the future of digital infrastructure, delivering high-performance, scalable facilities that will support the next generation of cloud, AI and hyperscale technologies across their growing Frankfurt platform. Their continued investment in the region demonstrates a strong commitment to innovation, sustainability, and long-term digital growth.

H&MV Engineering is proud to be partnering with Digital Realty on this landmark project.

As part of our EPC scope, H&MV is delivering the full civil and electrical design, procurement, installation and commissioning of a critical high-voltage substation, transformers, over 55 MV switchgear panels and thousands of metres of HV/MV/LV cabling infrastructure—providing the resilient power backbone required to enable the next phases of this campus. This will be one of the largest and most complex substations across the Digital Realty campus.

Both Digital Realty and H&MV place safety at the heart of everything we do, and it was clear from the outset that this shared focus, combined with strong collaboration across all teams, will be key to delivering this project successfully.

Drawing on our experience delivering complex energy infrastructure across multiple countries, H&MV brings a combination of global expertise and strong local capability here in Germany—ensuring the highest standards of delivery, innovation and ex*****on on a project of this scale.

𝐁𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐤𝐥𝐨𝐧𝐞 𝟏𝟏𝟎 𝐤𝐕 𝐒𝐮𝐛𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 – 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐣𝐞𝐜𝐭 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐥𝐞𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 & 𝐄𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐠𝐢𝐬𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧

Bracklone 110 kV Substation has successfully energised onto the transmission system, marking a significant milestone for the H&MV Engineering and ESB project teams.

As the appointed EPC contractor, H&MV Engineering worked in close collaboration with ESB Engineering and Major Projects and ESB Networks to ensure full alignment across design, construction, and operational interfaces throughout the project lifecycle. This integrated delivery approach enabled the coordinated ex*****on of CSA, electrical, and commissioning activities, as well as the seamless integration of third-party works across the existing transmission network and remote-end substations.

The successful energisation and handover of Bracklone Substation will support the offloading of the MV network and enhance system reliability, capacity, and long-term resilience for the Midlands region. We are proud to have played a key role in delivering this critical infrastructure.

The event provided a valuable opportunity to bring teams together, recognising the strong collaboration that continues to drive the successful delivery of this landmark renewable energy project. It also highlighted our shared commitment to 𝐬𝐚𝐟𝐞𝐭𝐲, 𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩, 𝐬𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲, 𝐥𝐨𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐞𝐬, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐞𝐱𝐜𝐞𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐢𝐧 𝐝𝐞𝐥𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐲 — values that remain central to everything we do.

It was fantastic to see H&MV Engineering so well represented throughout the event, with our own Dino Masle presenting on Fault Ride Through (FRT) requirements, alongside insightful discussions on a broad range of topics including SF₆ removal, digital substations, smart grid enablers, virtualised protection (SIPROTEC V), offshore wind developments, non-conventional instrument transformers, interconnectors, and practical design considerations such as cable specification.

A particular highlight was the poster presentations from the Level 9 Smart Sustainable Power Engineering students, including Seán Murphy, Keith O'Brien, FAHAD USMAN KHAN, whose showcased impressive research and innovation shaping the future of the sector. Congratulations to our own Jonathan Regan, who was awarded “𝐁𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐏𝐨𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐚𝐭 𝐏𝐨𝐰𝐞𝐫𝐆𝐫𝐢𝐝 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟔” for his excellent work on IEC 61850-based protection schemes — a fantastic achievement and well-deserved recognition.

This milestone reflects the continued dedication, expertise, and collaboration of the entire project team in delivering critical infrastructure to the highest standards.

Key achievements to date include:
⚡Completion of a 110 kV G.I.S 4-bay Siemens G.I.S installation
⚡Successful high voltage (HV) testing
⚡Substation pre-commissioning fully completed
⚡Stage Gate 3 approval granted by EirGrid
⚡ESB commissioning has commenced
⚡Installation of HV cable to the interface joint bay at Castlebagot Substation
⚡Reaching Stage Gate 3 marks a critical transition from construction and testing into the commissioning phase, bringing the project one step closer to full energisation.
