💡 The site processes approximately 4,000 litres of water per hour, generating significant volumes of wastewater containing detergents, suspended solids, hydrocarbons and persistent soap foam. With limited available space and increasingly stringent discharge requirements from Cork County Council, the client required a compact, efficient and environmentally compliant solution.

📢 WHAT DOES A 20+ YEAR OLD SEWAGE TREATMENT PLANT LOOK LIKE?
💡 Since BMS started manufacturing over 40 years ago, one of our guiding mantras has been building great value products that are built to last.
A great example of this is the Blivet Sewage Treatment System pictured below. It is a 23 year old BMS BL2000 Blivet Package Sewage Treatment Plant that has been treating the sewage from one of the South West of Irelands most popular tourist attractions.
🛠️ Some project details
1. Varying loads with large peaks in the summer and low loads in the Winter;
The Blivet’s unique Aerotor next generation RBC technology, is uniquely adapted to treat variable loads and does not need a minimum load/MLSS to work.
2. It is installed in the corner of the site above ground.
The Blivet is the most compact ‘all in one’ system available, so can fit in the tightest of spaces. All Blivet’s can be installed free standing, partially buried or buried up to lid level without extra supports.
3. What maintenance has been done?
It takes 1 man hour per week to maintain, which is done by the client. BMS visit a few times a year to check and service the plant. The plant has had an extremely low spare parts requirement since its installation.

⭐ Last week saw the collection of a BMS BL1500 Blivet Package Sewage Treatment System and Balance Tank for delivery to the Caribbean island of Montserrat.
🔧 The Blivet was chosen by our customer for many reasons:
✨ It being the most compact ‘all in one’ Package Sewage Treatment System available, which can fit in a small space but can treat big numbers and also produce excellent standard effluent, making it the ideal choice for small island nations like Montserrat.
✨Another important requirement was that all Blivet’s can ship in a standard container, this is also really important for ease of access to island nations. It can then be assembled and up and running within a day. Assembly can be done by any fitter.

🚨 WHAT DO YOU DO WHEN THE STANDARD DRAINAGE SOLUTION ISN'T SUITABLE?
⭐You design a new one.
🛠️ For the Copper Still Bar & Restaurant in Dromod, Co. Leitrim, BMS faced a challenging combination of requirements:
➡️ Very limited excavation space.
➡️ Ground conditions unsuitable for a conventional crate/tunnel system.
➡️ A requirement for stormwater attenuation.
➡️ The need for a Class 1 Bypass Petrol/Oil Interceptor.
➡️ A tank level which is lower than the outfall level.

🏗️Working with Advanced Planning, Aidan Duignan Plant Hire and Cox Brothers Construction, our engineering team developed a bespoke 22 m³ BMS Attenuator.
✅ The solution combines petrol/oil interception and stormwater attenuation within one engineered GRP vessel: INTERCEPT. STORE. CONTROL.
✅ Surface water is treated, temporarily stored and then released at a controlled rate; providing an integrated approach where space and site conditions make conventional solutions difficult.
✅This project is a good example of how engineering around the actual site conditions can open up new possibilities.
