ESB Poling Works
📍 Location: Athlone ESB Networks area/region
🕒 Contract: Full-time (long-term framework)
🔌 Sector: OHL / LV & MV Networks
We are looking for an experienced Project Manager to lead and coordinate ESB poling works on LV/MV networks in the Athlone area. This is a key role in the safe and efficient delivery of live and dead poling works and emergency response activities.
Key Responsibilities:
Act as Project Manager for ESB poling activities on LV/MV networks
Plan and programme day-to-day poling and overhead line works, ensuring resources, materials, and permits are in place
Coordinate emergency call-outs and organise rotas for standby and response crews
Liaise daily with ESB Networks, supervisors, and site teams to ensure safe and timely delivery of works
Ensure full engagement with safety systems, including:
Permit-to-work systems
Risk assessments & method statements
Tool-box talks and site briefings
Support and drive quality management procedures, audits, and close-out of non-conformances
Ensure works are delivered in line with ESB Networks standards, drawings, and specifications
Maintain accurate work records, documentation, and reporting for projects and emergency works
Provide leadership, guidance, and mentoring to poling and line teams on site
Skills & Experience – Essential
Previous ESB Networks experience
Minimum 5+ years’ experience in the OHL power industry on LV/MV networks
Proven experience in a similar role on major projects (PICW / Supervisor / Foreman level)
Proven ability to work on both wooden poles and steel structures
Strong understanding of ESB Networks safety rules, live-line and outage procedures
Ability to interpret and execute work instructions issued by line manager / ESB representative
Strong planning and organisational skills – able to manage multiple crews and work fronts
Excellent communication skills with crews, clients, and stakeholders
Ability to provide training records / authorisations to verify all qualifications and competencies
Desirable (Not Essential)
Knowledge of Athlone / Midlands ESB Networks geography
Experience with electronic work management systems / tablets for job packs and reporting
Current ESB-approved authorisations and safety training
