Keeping industrial ventilation systems operating reliably often comes down to one thing: carrying out the right maintenance before a minor issue becomes a costly failure.

This direct-drive centrifugal fan assembly recently came into our workshop for a complete electrical and mechanical overhaul. Driven by a CEMER IE3 1.5 Kw motor, the unit required a thorough inspection and refurbishment to ensure it was ready to return to dependable service.

Following a controlled dismantle, our engineers completed:
✅Connection verification
✅Electrical assessment of the stator, confirming the windings remained serviceable, with no rewind required
✅Comprehensive cleaning of the stator, rotor and bearing housings, including clearing the cooling fins and restoring airflow by removing the blocked fan grille
✅Bearing replacement
✅Dynamic balancing
✅Precision reassembly
✅Final testing and protective painting

Not every overhaul requires a rewind. By carrying out a detailed assessment first, we’re able to recommend the most appropriate repair, helping customers restore equipment reliability while avoiding unnecessary work.

Ireland has changed a lot in the last forty years. There was no euro, no Celtic Tiger, and many of the machines being worked on in our workshop today hadn’t even been invented yet.

While so much has changed, one thing has remained constant: the dedication and commitment to quality work of our people. Many of our team have built their careers with us over the years, bringing craftsmanship to every job. It’s the knowledge passed down through our long-serving team that allows us to deliver the quality our customers rely on today.

John O’Shaughnessy is a perfect example of that commitment. He joined when our base was still in Millstreet and has been an integral part of every move and milestone since.
Last week, the entire team came together to celebrate his ruby anniversary with him.

Thank you, John, for forty years of dedication, diligence, and attention to detail. We’re proud to have you as part of our team and look forward to many more years together.

⚙️Bringing Lean Thinking to Calibration Management ⚙️

Continuous improvement is often about making small changes that deliver a big impact.

As part of our ongoing Lean calibration initiative, we recently completed all our HACH on-site calibrations, a big step towards improving efficiency and reducing unnecessary downtime,

A big thank you to Sean Finn and Daire Moynihan who have been actively involved in the project internally and Barry Collins from Hach for their support.

Previously, equipment had to be sent away for external calibration, resulting in transport costs, extended downtime and reduced availability of critical instruments. By bringing the calibration specialists to us instead, we’ve streamlined the process.

The benefits have been immediate:
✅ Live Calibration certificates issued on completion
✅ Significantly reduced equipment downtime
✅ Reduced disruption to plant operations
✅ Increased availability of critical equipment
✅ Faster turnaround times and improved customer support
✅ Elimination of unnecessary transport and handling waste

This initiative is a great example of Lean in action - not simply reducing costs, but improving workflow, reducing waste and creating more value for both our business and our customers. Well done for everyone involved in making this such a success.

Building a great team is about more than the work we do every day. That’s why last week, the Avonmore Electrical team left the workshop behind, and enjoyed a well-earned day together in the Cork sunshine.

After a quick boat ride, we were given a tour of the remarkable Spike Island, Cork Harbour, one of Cork’s historical gems. With a history stretching back over 1,300 years, the island has been everything from a monastery, a military fortress and was once home to the largest prison in the world. As a company proudly based in Co. Cork, we’re incredibly lucky to have this location practically on our doorstep.

After our visit and back on the mainland, we enjoyed lunch at the Dean Hotel in Cork, a chance to relax, catch up, and welcome some of the newest members of our team. In the first half of this year alone, we’ve had 14 people join , each adding their own experience, ideas and personality to our growing team.

A huge thank you to everyone who joined us and helped make the day such a success, especially Geraldine who was instrumental in bringing it all together. We hope the video gives you a small taste of the great atmosphere, plenty of laughs and memories made on the day.

Located outside of Kinsale, Eli Lilly is home to a unique 50-hectare manufacturing campus where the worldwide supply of active pharmaceutical ingredients for many of Lilly’s innovative medicines is made.

When a critical motor failure held up production, our team responded immediately. Working closely with the customer, we identified the correct replacement motor and arranged delivery to site, all within the same night, helping to minimise downtime and keep production moving.
