The Tara Family Day on Saturday 3rd September proved to be a great success with over 1,000 people visiting the site. The weather was dreary but spirits weren’t dampened. Eager visitors queued up to join the popular bus tour of our surface facilities. They were treated to a Mine Rescue simulated exercise and an informative tour from our Tara Tour Guides who did a fantastic job throughout the day. Another highlight of the tour was a demonstration of a remote scoop operating and loading a truck.
Visitors young and old were amazed by the size of our machinery on display. In the marquee, visitors were treated to an excellent display from a number of departments, which included practical demonstrations, video displays and great goodies for people to take home on the day. The ‘smoothie’ bikes added some healthy competition to the entertainment.
The very popular caterers were kept busy feeding the multitude who were entertained by a magician, face painters and balloon artists while our younger visitors also enjoyed the bouncy slide and ball pit along with a variety of other games. The ice cream van went down a treat!
A large number of people participated in our “Guess the Weight of the Rock competition”. Guesses varied greatly however, the actual weight of the rock was 8.6 tonnes!
Overall, the family fun day was a fantastic opportunity for us to showcase what we do at Tara and the feedback from employees and visitors was overwhelmingly positive. Thank you to all who contributed on the day and in the planning of this great event!
