Lufthansa Technik Philippines is expanding to Clark International Airport with a new base maintenance facility — its second major hub in the country.

Spanning approximately 157,000 square meters with capacity for up to nine widebody aircraft bays, the multi-million-dollar MRO facility is expected to begin operations in 2028 and complement the Company’s operations at NAIA.

The expansion was announced during the State Visit of German Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier, who met with President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr. at Malacañan Palace on June 16, 2026. Both leaders recognized the project as a milestone in German-Philippine economic cooperation.

CLARK MOVES CLOSER TO A MAJOR AIRCRAFT MAINTENANCE HUB

Lufthansa Technik Philippines is moving forward with a major aircraft maintenance project at Clark International Airport in Pampanga.

The Philippines and Germany marked the agreement on Tuesday during a ceremony at Malacañan Palace, witnessed by President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. and German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier after their bilateral meeting.

The lease agreement was signed by the Bases Conversion and Development Authority, Luzon International Premier Airport Development Corporation, and Lufthansa Technik Philippines.

The project covers a 157,000-square-meter site inside the Clark airport complex. The area will be used for a Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul support facility, or MRO, for aircraft.

Lufthansa Technik Philippines is one of the country’s largest aircraft maintenance providers. It is also connected to Germany’s Lufthansa Technik, one of the major German investors operating in the Philippines.

The new facility supports Clark’s plan to grow as an aviation and aerospace center in Southeast Asia. It is also expected to bring more high-value investment and jobs to the area.

Lufthansa Technik Philippines earlier said it planned to invest around US$400 million in a Clark MRO complex that can service large aircraft, including the Airbus A380.

Germany remains the Philippines’ largest trading and investment partner within the European Union. Steinmeier’s state visit also marked a rare high-level visit, as the last visit by a German president to the Philippines was in 1963.
