Catheter performance is often defined long before the distal tip ever reaches the anatomy.
The reinforcement structure within the shaft has a major influence on how a device behaves under real procedural conditions. Braided, coiled, and multi-layer reinforced designs each affect torque response, flexibility, pushability, and kink resistance differently, particularly in complex or tortuous anatomy.
We explored how reinforced catheter shafts are engineered, where each reinforcement strategy performs best, and the key trade-offs engineers evaluate throughout device development.
