Buying electricity at teatime is the most expensive
habit in your house.
One Solis S6 5kW hybrid, two Dyness G2 batteries, 10 kWh of banked sunshine — enough to carry this
house clean through the evening peak and into the
next morning.
A single battery is the right answer for most homes.
But if you're a high-usage household — heat pump,
EV on the drive, someone home all day, or a night-rate tariff you want to make proper use of — a second battery changes the shape of your bill
entirely.
Note the detail: a dedicated battery isolator so
either unit can be taken out of service on its own,
plus a shunt and DC junction box for accurate
metering and tidy DC distribution. Two batteries
wired properly is a very different job to two

Solar makes the electricity. The battery decides who gets to keep it. 🔋

Without storage, your best generating hours land at noon — when nobody’s home. You sell it cheap, then buy it back at six when the whole house switches on at once.

The battery ends that trade. Fill it at noon, spend it at teatime, on the units you’d otherwise be paying full price for.

A full tank of hot water, and the boiler never lit. 🚿☀️

Slide two is a live reading from this install and it tells the story better than we can.

Mid-afternoon: the array is covering the house, the Dyness G2 battery is taking its fill, and the myenergi eddi is quietly pushing the remaining 3.0 kW into the immersion. 2.95 kWh of hot water banked that day without lighting the boiler and without buying a single unit off the grid.

That’s the piece most people miss. Once the house is looked after and the battery is full, the surplus has to go somewhere. Export it and you get a few cent. Divert it into your cylinder and you’ve displaced oil, gas or an immersion cycle you’d have paid full price for. Same sunshine, several times the value.

Exporting your solar is the least valuable thing you can do with it. 🔋🚗

Export rates sit well below what you pay to buy electricity back. So every unit you keep is worth more to you than the unit you sell — every time.
That is the whole job of the Solis S6 hybrid. It keeps as much of your own generation in the house as it possibly can, and exports only what’s genuinely left over:
1️⃣ The house gets first call — kettle, fridge, immersion, whatever’s asking.
2️⃣ Then the Dyness G2 battery, so the surplus you make at noon is still yours at seven, instead of being sold cheap and bought back dear.
3️⃣ Then the zappi. In eco+ mode it charges the car on surplus only — free miles instead of a low-rate export payment.
4️⃣ Only what survives all three leaves the house.

The panels here have built-in optimisers, so one shaded module doesn’t drag the whole
string down — worth a lot on a roof with a chimney or a dormer.

Told your roof isn’t suitable for solar? That’s not the end of the conversation.
North-facing pitch. A slate roof you’d rather not disturb. Chimneys and dormers throwing shade across the best of the day. We hear it constantly — and a ground-mounted array answers all of it.
10 kWp went in here on a galvanised frame, pitched exactly where it needs to be, with a Sigenergy 5kW inverter and 18 kWh of SigenStor storage behind it. Every module in full sun for the full day, and cleaning done standing on grass instead of up a ladder.
Slide two is the ERS firefighter safety switch, mounted at the array itself. One signal and the DC strings drop to a safe voltage at source, so the emergency services are never dealing with live cable runs.
