Weltec recently hosted a STEM TY Week in collaboration with STEM Passport for Inclusion, and students from Our Lady of Mercy Secondary School, Waterford and it was a fantastic week from start to finish 👏
The STEM Passport programme gives Transition Year students a real insight into what STEM careers look like in the real world, showing how subjects like maths, science, engineering and technology translate into hands-on, rewarding careers. We were delighted to get involved and support the next generation of talent coming through the engineering and construction sector.
Throughout the week, students took part in a range of practical and interactive activities, including building their own speaker, an electrical demo, a virtual welding experience, and a site visit. It was a brilliant way to showcase what modern engineering is really all about.
The focus was on highlighting the wide variety of roles involved in engineering projects today, as well as the importance of safety, digital construction and teamwork on site.
At Weltec, we believe engaging with young people early is key to the future of engineering. Initiatives like this help break down outdated perceptions and show that M&E is a modern, innovative and technology-driven industry with many different career paths. Creating these opportunities is vital to building a strong and diverse talent pipeline for the future.
A huge shout-out to Dermot from Metron Welding for running the virtual welding demo - a brilliant way to wrap up the week! 🙌 It was a fascinating look at modern welding processes and just how skilled and high-tech this area of engineering has become.
